Result!

Today is GCSE results day and Eleanor was at school bright and early to collect her brown envelope containing her grades.

She put so much effort in to her revision and is very pleased, as are we, with her results, 8 B's, 2 C's and an A in Maths, which I'm especially pleased about.

We spent eight months arguing with the school about Maths as they wanted Eleanor to take a Foundation exam paper, which would have capped the grade she could achieve at a C. We had to fight so hard for them to allow her to take the Higher Tier paper and I think this grade proves that we were right to do so.

Eleanor's had a meeting with a sixth form tutor this morning and she's been offered a place on all the A level courses she wants to take, English Language, Psychology, Sociology and Biology.

We're taking Eleanor out for a meal tonight to celebrate. Well done, Eleanor, we're very proud of you.

    1. Thank you. We're thrilled with the Maths result, not just because it's an A but because we had to fight for her to be allowed to take this exam. She put a lot of effort in and has been rewarded for it.

    1. Thank you. The first thing Eleanor said when she saw us was "I got an A in Maths", I think that says it all.

  6. Congratulations Eleanor! So pleased to hear the good news, especially with the situation over the Maths paper. Enjoy the evening celebration! We're also celebrating our grand daughter's result with Health and Social Care GCSE (taken a year early) with an A*. She got back from her holiday in Italy and is very happy. Next year will be the big year taking more subjects all at once. I think she's working towards similar subjects as Eleanor.

    1. Thank you. It was quite a stressful time having to argue with the school for her to be allowed to sit this Maths paper so we're thrilled she got such a good result. Well done to your grandaughter too.

    1. Thank you. Eleanor originally wanted to take Music and Drama at A level but the school aren't offering either course so she chose alternative subjects, but she's very happy with the four she's now settled on so I hope she puts as much effort in to them as she has done her GCSEs.

    1. Thank you. We're not ones to go up to school over things, in fact, we've rarely been up in the fifteen years that Daniel and Eleanor have now been at school, yet it doesn't seem as though we've been away from the place this last couple of years. If it hasn't been one thing it's been another, and to be honest, I'd have liked Eleanor to take her A levels elsewhere, but she's adamant that she wants to stay at this school, so what can you do? I'm just relieved that we kept on with our fight, we knew that she was capable of achieving more than a C in Maths. In fact, her report states that her potential in Maths was a B so why cap her at a C? Can you tell I'm still livid about the whole thing? Thank goodness she proved us right.

  11. Well Done Eleanor! You must be feeling so proud and she must be feeling relieved its all over! Especially good news on the Maths, and shows how worth while it was that you stuck to your guns with the school.
Hope Eleanor enjoys her celebrations tonight and the rest of the summer holidays. What comes next for Eleanor?

    1. Thank you. We're very proud of her, we know how much work she put in to these exams. We're so pleased that she did so well with her Maths, though we'd have been just as pleased if she'd got a C. It wasn't that we thought she should get a higher grade than she was capable of, just that they shouldn't put a cap on what she could achieve. They obviously didn't realise the grade she could attain. Next it's A levels, more hard work, though she's got a goal in mind so it will be worth putting in the effort.

    1. We're really proud. I'm so pleased that we stood our ground, even though the school had given up on her taking the Higher Tier paper. It just goes to show that you need to stand up for what you think is right. We had a wonderful evening out.

  17. Well done Eleanor, all that revision paid off. Well done to you for putting your foot down too with the maths. Some battles are well worth fighting! I think I would have announced her grade in a rather loud voice whilst walking past the maths teacher!

    1. Thank you. She was especially pleased with her Maths grade, I think we'll have chance once she's back at school to let the Maths department know exactly what we think of them. We shouldn't have had to fight to get the best for her.

  20. Brilliant news, congratulations to Eleanor , so satisfying after all the hard graft, great that Eleanor has all the A level choices she wanted. Well done for fighting for the maths level, I think I would be gloating to the maths teacher. Glad you had a lovely meal to celebrate, the dessert sounded yummy xcx

    1. Thank you. It's a weight off all our minds that Eleanor has got the grades required to take the A levels of her choice. I think there will be a bit of gloating when I see the Maths teacher again, perhaps they'll listen to us if we have any more concerns, though I doubt it. Eleanor loves her desserts and the one she had last night was especially good, or so I've been told, Mick and I rarely eat dessert when we go out.
