Girly Day

I've had a really enjoyable day today and laughed so much that my sides ache. One of my challenges this year is to do something each month for me, and I decided that the thing I'd do this month is spend a girly day with Eleanor.

Eleanor's 15 and she's really good company. When I was expecting her, I could never imagine myself having a daughter. I don't know if it was becuase I already had a son or if it was because I'm not very girly myself, but I'm so pleased that I've got her. Don't get me wrong, I love Daniel just as much, but it's lovely having a daughter and getting to do girly things with her.

We started off the day by going to a local shopping centre for a look around the shops. Eleanor needed some new leggings and she also got a few tops as well as a new bag. We had a look in a few charity shops and I came away with a couple of books for the bargain price of 99p, buy one get one free. By this time it was midday, so we popped in to the dentist's as Eleanor had an appointment.

Everything was fine with Eleanor's teeth, so we popped back home to let Archie out for a wee before heading off to the local pub for a pub lunch. I'm supposed to be trying to lose some weight, but this is the second meal out I've had this week. On Tuesday evening, we went over to York to take Daniel for a meal to celebrate his birthday, he was 19 yesterday. Anyway, back to today's meal. Eleanor had a voucher for a free sundae for dessert, but the sundae she chose involved a milk shake and the machine was broken so she was told that she could choose any other dessert off the menu instead. She was very cheeky and asked if that included a dessert which was meant to be shared between two, she's a greedy girl.

Well, when it was brought to the table, we couldn't believe our eyes. It had eight scoops of ice cream in it, two Twix fingers, Maltesers, M&M's, cookies, cream and chocolate sauce. The restaurant staff were laughing and said that she couldn't leave until she'd finished it all.

They brought two spoons, but I literally only had two spoonfuls of ice cream, Eleanor ate the rest.

It got to the point where she just couldn't eat any more, but I have to say that there wasn't much left in the bottom of the bowl at this point.

We came home to spend the rest of the afternoon cuddled on the sofa with Archie, and watched a Rom-Com which Eleanor got for Christmas, 27 Dresses.

I didn't think that after all the food she'd scoffed at lunch time, Eleanor would have any room left for more, but she still managed some of the pick and mix sweeties she'd filled a cup with during our shopping trip.

I've had a really lovely day with my girly.

    1. We had a really lovely day. It's the first time I've seen this film, I enjoyed it.

  2. I always thought I would have four boys, so when my first baby was delivered and they said it was a girl I said "Are you sure?" I had no plans, nor indeed names for a girl, as, like you, I was such a tomboy. When the next (and final!) baby was a girl I was quite used to the idea. Though my sister, who by now had 3 boys, was VERY jealous, as she always wanted girls!
So now I have two lovely daughters and two lovely granddaughters (and a grandson) so there is always someone to shop, cook, sew and laugh with.

    1. It's funny how you get a feel for what you're going to have. I was so sure that Daniel was a boy, even though I didn't find out at the scan, that I bought boy's clothing for him before he was born. It's nice to have girls to do girly things with, but boys are fun too, just in a different way.

  3. Quality Mummy and daughter time is brilliant! We managed an afternoon this week but with two brothers still at home it's rare!

    1. I've only got Eleanor at home now, but it's still a treat to have time together, she does so many different things as well as seeing friends that our mum and daughter time is very limited. Glad you've managed an afternoon together too.

  4. Sounds a great sort of day Jo. I would have loved to have had a daughter to do those sorts of things with but my weekends were all about football when the boys were growing up. Its lovely having granddaughters who I indulge in girlie things!

    1. I was really pleased that Daniel never really got in to playing football for a team so I was never stood on sidelines in all weather. His game is cricket, so much more civilised, they call it off if it's raining. Your time with girls has now come with your grandaughters, I bet you love doing girly things with them.

  5. Sounds like both of you had a blast - although how Eleanor was able to move after eating that dessert is a mystery. :oD

    1. I know. She's so slim too, I don't know where she puts it all.

  6. Fantastic! Eden and I do get girlie time but not very often. I'm always with the boys! Saying that Callum is sat next to me crocheting so I don't always need to be with Eden to do girlie things! Eleanor looks like Eden, slim!! By goodness though I don't know how, Eden can't half put some food away! Wish I could still do that!

    1. It's harder to give time to just one when they've got younger siblings. Eleanor could win an eating competition, she eats so much. I keep telling her that she may be slim now but it will all catch up with her in later life.

    1. It was a fun day for both of us. Eleanor's growing up very quickly so I'm making the most of the time we're able to spend together.

  8. Sounds like a great day and cherish these, as my daughter and I don't get much of that any more as she has two children of her own now. We try and go to the quilt show in Melbourne together around July. Take care.

    1. I suppose relationships change when your children have families of their own. It's nice that you're able to do something special together each year though.

    1. I couldn't believe the dessert, though I knew that Eleanor would have no trouble eating most of it. I'm trying to shed a few pounds so I only had a couple of spoonfuls of ice cream, though I didn't mind as I'm not a huge fan of these type of desserts. I'd have quite enjoyed one of the Twix fingers though.

Goodness I think that even I would have had problems finishing that dessert!

    1. The dessert was huge and that's no exaggeration. I don't think the restaurant staff believed she'd eat as much of it as she did, but I knew she would, she's a gannet.

    1. I agree. I've no idea how she managed to eat so much, I'm sure she'll pay for it in later life though. You know what they say, a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.

    1. I couldn't believe the size of the dessert, and certainly couldn't believe how Eleanor ate her way through it. It's so lovely being able to spend time with a daughter, it's very special.
