In The Pleasure Groove

I used to read a lot of biographies and autobiographies, I enjoy reading about people's lives, I suppose that's one of the reasons I enjoy reading blogs so much. When I heard that John Taylor, the bass player from Duran Duran, had written an autobiography, I knew it was something I'd enjoy reading.

I was a devoted Duranie in the 1980's and John was my favourite member of the band. My bedroom wall was plastered with posters of the band which I'd carefully torn from magazines and having listened to their songs over and over, I knew every word. I saw them play live twice.

I haven't got very far in to the book yet but I'm enjoying the way it's written. It's already making me want to read further so I don't expect it will take me long to finish. Perhaps I'll relive some of those eighties days in the pages to follow.

    1. There's always one band which you tend to prefer and obsess about as a young teen. Eleanor's passed One Direction by, her favourite is Maroon 5, she was devastated that she didn't get to see them on their recent tour.

  2. I quite liked their music Jo but by the time they were around I was a busy young mum with two little ones so life was a bit hectic. Tony is younger than me and his ex girlfriend was a Duranie and he took her to one of their concerts, not sure if it was under sufference though!!

    1. Mick once took his younger sister to see Wham, he always says that he only went because she wouldn't have been able to go unless he was looking out for her, but I have him on that he went because he liked Wham. Not cool for a boy to admit that in the eighties.

  3. I was a Spandau Ballet fan and liked Tony Hadley and Martin Kemp. My friends preferred Duran Duran. Hope you enjoy the rest of the book.

    1. I had friends who liked Spandau Ballet, you had to be in one camp or the other, didn't you? For all that was said about them in the eighties, their music has stood the test of time.

    1. I loved the eighties, it was the era I grew up in, so I'm sure the book will be interesting the more I read of it.

  5. Oh dear, I must be showing my age, as my favourites were Cliff Richard and the Shadows and Dave Clark 5. I was a teenager in the 60's and the 80's went by in a flash with 3 children to look after. Glad you are enjoying it.

    1. Cliff Richard was a favourite in Mick's house when he was growing up, not his favourite though, his mum's. His auntie has seen him perform many many times, not only in concert but also in the tennis tournaments he arranged too.

  6. I was never really a huge fan, Simon LeBon just seemed like such a huge poser!

    1. I think posing was what the eighties were all about. Not only did I use cans and cans of hairspray, I also had the curly perm.

  8. I worshiped Duran Duran... I have you on my blog as one of the blogs I read often and right there was a picture of John Taylor, I can spot any of the Duran boys about 5 miles away :) I adored Nick Rhodes but you know... I wouldn't say no to Simon either! I have said that I was going to get this book and then I forgot about it, now that I have seen it on your blog I'm reminded that it's a must and I'm off to Amazon right now!
I hope you're enjoying all of that hot weather Jo!

    1. Ha ha, I quite liked Simon too. Andy Taylor has also written a book, I may read that some time in the future. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I'm enjoying it at the moment.
