Just In Time For Winter

Do you remember the Patons Pompero which I bought from Kemps back in July? This is what's become of it.

It so lovely and soft and will be great to keep the chills away whilst walking Archie now that the cooler days are here. It's a nice length too. The pattern I followed advised to cast off when the scarf measured 150cm or 60 inches but I carried on for a little longer. I like plenty of scarf to wrap around.

It's an easy eight row pattern repeat, but I had to keep the pattern handy as I found I couldn't memorise it. I think the brain cells are going now that I'm getting older.

There's tassels on one end and a fringe on the other. I've never done either before, all the scarves I've knit previously have had a plain end, so it was nice to learn something new.

I'm doing well with my challenge of having a finished item each month. This is September's.

It's back to crochet for October's item, though it's so chilly now that I'm tempted to cast on a pair of socks. It's a while since I've knit any and I do love my hand knitted socks.

  1. That's such a lovely pattern. I'm knitting a cable jumper at the moment with a 12 row pattern repeat - I definitely need the pattern at the side of me for that! It's ages since I've knit anything so complicated but I'm really enjoying it.

    1. I've only ever knit cables once, and that was a pair of fingerless mittens. I really like the look of cables though, but they're a little faffy. I bet your jumper will look stunning when it's finished.

  2. It looks really lovely. The colour is gorgeous. I must admit I would need a pencil and paper at the side of me too, I really dont remember things these days.
You have finished it just at the right time, its really chilly on a morning now.

    1. I was in two minds about which colour to order, but I'm really pleased with what I chose. These autumn mornings really are chilly. I've resorted to having the central heating on already.

  4. Goodness me, that is simply stunning! I love the colour and the pattern, it is just gorgeous. Was it hard? I would love to have a go at knitting something like this but fear it may be a bit like running before I can walk. I agree, scarves can never be too long. x

    1. Thank you. I didn't find it a hard pattern to follow, just a tricky one to remember. You should really have a go at something like this, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time.

    1. It's a Patons pattern so I'd better not post it here, I don't want to get in to any copyright problems. I like the wool it's knitted in, it's lovely and soft.

    3. The pattern is Patons 3749, New Season Scarves. Glad you like the book, there's always a danger when you take a recommendation that it won't live up to expectations. I'll look forward to seeing some of the projects you make from it.

  6. I agree with Gillian. The scarf is gorgeous as is the colour. Was the pattern difficult as I wouldn't mind trying to knit something like that although I'm sure mine wouldn't look anything like yours!

    1. I didn't find it a difficult pattern to follow, though anything's easy if you know how to do it. If I get stuck on a pattern I just look up the stitch on You Tube, there's loads of great turorials on there.

  10. Your scarf is a lovely colour and knit. I'm really impressed.

My Mum often gives us hand knitted scoks for Christmas presents. They are so cosy.

    1. I love hand knitted socks. I kept seeing them on people's blogs and wanted a pair for myself. That's how I got back in to knitting after a break of over twenty years.
