How Hard Can It Be?

I remember my grandma trying to teach me to crochet when I was a little girl. How I wish I'd taken more notice now, how many things do we regret when we get older?

I seem to be having a lot of trouble learning to crochet. I've bought a book which shows step by step instructions on how to do particular stitches and I've watched tutorials online too, but I still can't quite grasp it. Knitting is so much easier, to me anyway.

My first attempt was something from the book I've got. I don't suppose it's too bad as a first attempt, but look how the yarn crisscrosses, I think I'm winding the yarn the wrong way round the hook, I have to try very hard to remember which way it goes.

My second and third attempts, this time from a tutorial online. Still not great.

This is one I did this morning. I don't know if I'm doing my last slip stitch in the right place, it looks a bit odd.

I'll persevere, I really want to be able to crochet.

  5. Stick with it! you'll do it if you want to - just see how quickly you've got better so far. I agree with catherine that the Attic24 tutorials are great. Also look in Youtube for "tiny crochet flower" - it's very simple and well explained and will give you confidence. Don't forget to watch out for UK/US differences though. have fun!

I used Teresa's videos to learn how to crochet 3 years ago. I found them really easy to follow because of all the slow motion bits. They are in American terms, so please be aware of that. It can be quite confusing when you're learning! Here's a conversion chart.

I still consider myself to be a beginner and hope one day to be as good as Lucy, she's amazing!

We've just moved up the road to Boroughbridge by the way, it's lovely. :)

  11. Rachel - I've never been to Boroughbridge, though we've been through Knaresborough today, I think it's quite close. I'm glad you're pleased with your move. I will check out the links you have provided, everything helps.
