A Change Of Scenery

We've got some lovely walks close to home but all of us, and I include Archie in this, are fed up of them now after taking the same routes day after day over the past year, so on Saturday afternoon we decided to head somewhere different.

Now you may not think that the photo above looks like a very good walk for Archie but looks can be deceptive. These motorway services opened last year, they're a short drive away from where we live, and there's more to them than meets the eye.

There's plenty of green space to the side of the services and lots of young trees have been planted.

We came to a track which was a safe distance from any roads so Archie was able to come off his lead.

A little further along was a huge lake.

The best part of the walk for Archie. He does love walking through woodland. Unfortunately, it got rather muddy and annoyingly I was wearing my trainers rather than my walking boots so we ended up turning round. If we'd continued on our journey we'd have reached the River Aire and the canal, which I'm sure would be a lovely walk, but that's something for another day.

Saturday was dull and rather chilly but the gorse is flowering which brightened things up.

Back to the lake.

I think this will be a great walk when the sun's shining, and Archie definitely enjoyed going somewhere different.

  1. Looks lovely Jo & I'm wondering just where it might be. So you'll be able to walk along the canal too, which will be lovely in summer. It's good to be able to go a little further & some where different. Take care and hugs.

  3. Who would have thought that there would be such a lovely walk right next to a service station, you do get fed up walking in the same places. Now that the weather is improving I'm going to try and find a different place to walk each week. At least we are allowed to travel a bit further now yay! Have a great week.x

  5. What a lovely walk! By the way, with regards to your previous post-- I found a copy of The Mother-in-Law at my local library. Read it in one (very long) sitting because I wanted to know how it would end!! Liked it very much-- and it was worth it to me to stay up so late reading/finishing it. Thank you ever so much for the recommendation!!

    1. You're welcome, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I get a lot of recommendations for books from blogs or Instagram, it's good to read a review or hear what other people thought of a book. I usually do a post each month about a book I've enjoyed so do keep checking out my reviews.

  6. It's always nice to go somewhere different. A place worth a return visit and I believe the weather is set to change for the better this week. The sun is shining here but it's blowing a gale.

  7. Fancy there being such a good walk near the services! At least there's plenty of parking and maybe even a small snack if you've forgotten to bring your own. I bet Archie had a whale of a time.

  9. Looks like a good place for a dog walk and a change of scenery -I've sussed out where it is :) - and will probably look even nicer on a sunny day.

  11. Jo, I always enjoy reading your interesting posts! This one brought to mind my many years of traveling with dogs on long trips and trying to find places to get them out of the car to get some exercise. Not always easy but sometimes we would hit it just right. They would settle down again and I was happy they were happy.💖

  13. What a fun walk-and look at those cloudy skies. I love this time of year when things start to green up and winter is on its last legs. xo Diana

  14. How inventive of you, Jo, to think of the service station. Your comment and picture about gorse in bloom took me back to my childhood and the Hednesford Hills, covered in gorse, my playground.

  15. It's nice when you find somewhere new to discover, I would never have thought to look at a service station, but I suppose so many motorways pass countryside it makes sense that there would be some good walks.

  16. I know what you mean about taking the same routes all the time. That does look like a wonderful walk. It's lovely seeing the sheen of green on the trees as the new leaves come through.xxx

  18. I think we could all do with a change of scenery. And you still have the option of going back to 'finish' the route :)
