My Dad

My dad died on Sunday, it came as a relief for us all at the end as he'd suffered so much. It was so hard to watch him go through all the pain he was in and we just wanted him out of his agony for his own sake.

Thank you for all your thoughtful comments on my last few posts, knowing you were all thinking of us at this difficult time really helped. He had been in hospital for just over a fortnight and he deteriorated so quickly in that time. I'm not sure he even knew we were there with him by the end.

I'm going to take some time away from the blog for a while, I'm sure you understand. It's so very sad losing my dad in such a short space of time after my mum and it's hitting me hard. My mum died just three days before Mother's Day last year and here we are again with Father's Day coming up on Sunday. There's all the practical things which need doing at the moment too and these are being hampered by the coronavirus, there's so many changes to procedures because of places, including official buildings, being closed. On top of that we're all having to isolate for a fortnight as my dad came into contact with someone on the ward who later tested positive for the virus, and though my dad never showed any symptoms and wasn't tested, we've been told we have to take precautions. My dad was a huge part of our lives, we all loved him very much and he'll be greatly missed.

  18. I am so very sorry to her of the loss of your dear Dad. You have my deepest sympathy and I so understand your loss of now your Dad, after your Mom; my family lost my Dad August 2018 and just 14 months later Nov 2019 we lost our Mom - both suffered at the end though Mom's trials not as long at the end where Dad had pain / discomfort for several months. It was a blessing for both at the end as it was going to be a rough end for my Mom with a terrible cancer and peacefully she downgraded within a 10 day period, fast, so that she didn't linger and suffer. My family was stunned when just 8 mos after Dad's passing Mom was diagnosed with a terrible stage IV cancer with little chance of recovery. They will live on in your hearts and memories and will be very missed. Hugs.

  21. Jo, however hard it is to have to say goodbye, and however difficult the coronavirus situation makes things for you, you and your family have cared for Dad absolutely brilliantly. He always knew how much you loved him, he was never alone, never without assistance, and never without family and company.

You know we are thinking of you all, and sending our love.

  22. So sorry to hear about your Dad especially just before Father's Day. Hope you can get everything sorted out ok for the funeral. My husband did a funeral about 3 weeks ago, only lasted for 1/2 hour but the director said it was the best funeral he'd ever been to. Know it will be difficult because of the pandemic situation but will be thinking of you and your family and praying for you.

  35. So sorry to hear this. I do know how hard it is I lost both my parents in their sixties and I have never really hot over it. I felt like a totally different person when they were gone. I gets easier to live with but 30 years later it still hurts. I hear people complaining about parents and it makes me so angry. Take care of yourself
