Kitting Up

I've decided that I'd like to do some more cross stitch this year so I had a look on some online sites at different charts. I really love all the little ornaments that people make, especially those which they hang from the tree at Christmas so I definitely want to have a go at some of those. For my first project I've gone with He's A Flake by Little House Needleworks.

I love how these little ornaments are finished off but I'm not confident that I'll be able to make mine look anything like this. Sewing things up is not my forte but I'll try and muddle through.

I'd also like to start a larger project and as my niece is getting married later on this year I decided I'd have a go at a wedding sampler. To Have and To Hold is by Country Cottage Needleworks and though it doesn't look a huge project, I think it will be challenging for me, having done very little cross stitch in the past, so I won't rush it just to have it ready for the big day, it's something I can gift the happy couple at some point in the future if I haven't finished it on time. I want it to be an enjoyable process, not something which I have to work on to a deadline.

The charts arrived yesterday so I've now got to kit them up with thread and fabric and then I'll be ready to go. I'm looking forward to starting something new.

  4. Two nice charts you have chosen Jo.
The wedding sampler will be a very special gift for your neice.
I'm sure you'll be fine once you get started with the stitching but of course any questions just shout up and I've seen there are a few stitchers who comment here so will be able to help. It's always daunting when you start a new project, even for those of us who have stitched for a while. Main thing, ENJOY!

  5. Both projects look nice Jo. I am sure you'll do just fine sewing the little ornament together. You can always post it up to me and I'll do it if you struggle :-)

  7. Do try it... As long as it remains fun.... And does not become a chore, which "has" to be finished. -smile-

  8. Two very pretty cross stitch patterns you won't to able to put down. It's a good idea to have a plan for the finished work as well. I hope all is going well with your hospital trips, they take up so much time though.

  10. Enjoy your lovely new charts. I really like doing the cross stitch but get very nervous making them up in case I ruin them. I often go for a small pillow as they are easy to make but would like to learn how to do these flat designs as they make great ornaments. x

  11. I used to cross stitch and I loved it, but my old eyes don't allow me to do it anymore. I love the pieces that you have selected.

  14. LHN do some lovely charts that can be made up into ornaments to hang on the tree, I stitched He's A Flake some years ago, he's so cute. The trick to making ornaments up is to take your time. there are some great tutorials out there, I tend to go and watch Vonna, The Twisted Stitcher tutorials. She has some great ones on Youtube, I'm sure you will be fine when the time comes to make them up :-)

  15. Lovely patterns I hope you enjoy doing them. If it helps, I enlarge the patterns so I keep the original in tact then use a marker to cross off the stitches, then I don't lose my place so easily xcx

  16. I love those patterns, especially the little snowman. It's years since I've done any cross stitch but I remember it being very relaxing. X

  17. they look like lovely patterns! I enjoyed the craft floor at Liberty 1.5 weeks ago and bought myself a new tapestry to start. Am trying to finish a few knitting things off first - even in the summer heat!
