Anna & Theo

Anna and Theo are two separate books by Amanda Prowse but each tells the story about what happens when two very different people fall in love with each other.
"Theo and Anna are two damaged souls, from two different worlds. Is their love for each other enough to let go of the pain of their pasts? Or will Anna and Theo break each other's hearts?"

There are two sides to every story and each book tells Anna and Theo's own stories.

I thought this was an unusual concept, two books, one story, but each book telling Anna and Theo's own side to it. Each book could be read as a standalone story, however, some things from one book are explained in more detail in the other, so to get the full story you would need to read them both.

I actually enjoyed Theo more than Anna, I'm not sure why, it just seemed to grip me more than Anna did. I find Amanda Prowse books a bit hit and miss, some I love and some are just okay. I'd recommend Anna and Theo, I like the idea of two different sides of the story and I did enjoy each book but I wouldn't say they're her best.

  1. As you say a clever concept, and not one I've come across before. Happy reading. xx

    1. I haven't come across this concept before either, it was interesting seeing how the story panned out in each book.

  2. I've read books that swap between characters each chapter but never in separate books like this, it's an interesting idea.

    1. I'm reading a book at the moment which swaps between characters but like you, have never come across the idea of two books telling the same story from two different character's viewpoints before.

  4. Interesting take, on telling the "full story."

Did you read one, before the other? Would you suggest that someone else, read one, before the other? Or doesn't it really make any difference?

I've gotten back into reading, of late, and it's being wonderful. 'Tis the perfect time for it. :-) With the weather getting so much cooler. And being curled up inside, with a good book, is so nice.

    Happy reading!

    1. I read Anna first and then Theo and I'd recommend reading them this way round. I love reading, I always read a couple of chapters when I go to bed and it helps me wind down at the end of the day.

  5. That does sound a clever concept.
I don't think I've read anything by Amanda Prowse.

Hope your week is going well. After Storm Callum, we are still having rain … hoping it clears up for the weekend and the grandchildren's half term week next week!

    Take care

    All the best Jan

    1. I've read most of Amanda Prowse's books, some I like better than others. It's been a lovely day here today with a gorgeous sunset so I'm hoping we have more of the same tomorrow and I hope you get some nice weather your way too.

  6. I’d much rather they published as two parts of the same book. I always fel duped when stories are told across more than one book.

    1. I enjoyed having two separate books as they are two stories, I don't think it would have worked as one book as their stories begin when they're children and don't come together until they're grown.

  7. Sounds like an interesting way to tell a story.

  8. Just to give you something else to read, there is a third book in this series too - How to Fall in Love Again, which tells a similar story about another character in the series. It's definitely worth reading if you enjoyed Anna and Theo.

    1. I enjoyed reading about each character in this way. It allowed the author to delve properly into each of their backstories.

  10. That's intriguing - usually I've seen that type of storytelling incorporated within a single book, even when the characters are living separate lives early on (i.e. one character tells the story in one chapter, then in the next chapter it's another characters turn to tell their story). I do enjoy this way of storytelling but also recall that some Anne Rice books did individual books for the characters (the Vampire Chronicles series come to mind) and I thoroughly enjoyed those too.

    1. I haven't come across books written in this way before but I really enjoyed getting to know each character as an individual.

  11. I loved both these books, although i enjoyed the book about Anna more. I thought they were so unlike her other books, which i find can be a bit whiny, her writing was so different that i checked a couple of times to see if it was a collaboration, lol. I'm still struggling with good books to read so if you have any recommendations do pass them on. Have a good weekend.

    1. Isn't it funny how we all enjoy different things in a book? I enjoyed Theo more than Anna. I've enjoyed all her books but have definitely enjoyed some more than others.

  12. Read the reviews, sounds interesting, thanks for the pointer. Amazonrefuse certain titles for kindle outside the UK which is a pain when you find something you might like xcx

    1. It worked really well. There's another book about a different character in the story which I'm reading at the moment.
