Sunset

Number 40 on my 50 Before 50 list is Watch a sunset from a beach and I thought one of our evening picnics on Black Rock beach in Cornwall would be perfect for this.

The weather was beautiful, it had been a hot day but it was cooling down nicely much to Archie's delight. It's been rather stifling for him just lately but the evening temperatures are more to his liking.

We laid out a couple of blankets on the sand and ate a simple picnic whilst many of the families who had enjoyed the beach during the day packed up and left. There weren't many people still on the beach by the time the sun was going down.

It's such a peaceful time of day and rather special to be in a beautiful place watching as the sun disappears and makes its way to another part of the world.

We've been really spoilt with the weather on holiday, it was still warm enough at this time of the day to be in T-shirts without the need for anything to cover our bare arms.

There was a line of cloud just above the horizon, the sun bobbed behind it for a minute or two before making a final appearance.

The sky was such a beautiful colour but all too soon the sun had disappeared for another day.

Watching the sun set is such a simple pleasure in life but one we can all enjoy.

  1. Lovely post and wonderful photo's, you must be doing well on your list. Our cats love the evenings and early mornings, they are outside, they spend most of the day inside in cool spots around the house.

    1. We all took lots of photos, these are just a small selection. The heat must be really uncomfortable for animals with fur. We had Archie's coat cut short again before we went away, I think he definitely felt the benefit of it.

  2. Beautiful photos of the sunset. When I was asking Oliver what he want to do on holiday one of the things he asked to do was to have fish and chips by the sea and watch the sunset, I think I can manage that :-) To catch a fish was also on his list, that one i will leave to Mark :-)

    1. There's so many lovely beaches in Cornwall, you'll be able to take your pick. The place where we stay has four fishing lakes so Mick always does some fishing. Eleanor used to love fishing too but only went once this year. She still managed to catch more than Mick though.

  4. Awesome!!!! Your photos of that sunset are quite surreal Jo. How many left on your 50 before FIFTY? I'll email over the weekend, hopefully. Take care.

    1. I don't think photos capture the moment all that well, it's the overall ambience which is quite something. I've still got lots to do on my 50 Before 50 list and just over six weeks left. There'll be plenty which I don't get round to.

    1. We loved our evenings spent on the beach. That's one of the great things about the good weather, the days were extended and we managed to squeeze every drop of time out of each day.

    1. This weather is miserable for animals, Archie doesn't like being too warm. The atmosphere on the beach at that time of day was quite special, we really enjoyed our evening picnics.

  10. Simply gorgeous photos...!!!!

    Beach, surf, sunset... -happy sigh-

We love where we live. But we see neither sunrise nor sunset, here. -sigh- Only a "peek" through trees, at the precise moment the sun passes, the "peak" spot. :-)

This was quite perfect. So happy for you, to have had it.

  14. Gorgeous photographs Jo. It looks as if the sky is alight. It feels good to take the time to watch the sun set (especially at the beach) and yet I seldom do so. X

    1. The only problem with watching the sun set at the beach is that you have to be there quite late at this time of year, though when we've got weather like we have at the moment, it's such a pleasure.

  15. So true - no matter how many times we see the sunset, it never fails to inspire a moment of awe where you simply sit and stare at the incredible colours. To do that on a beach, would just bring the awesomeness of that moment up a few notches.
