A Surprise Holiday

We weren't going to bother having a holiday this year, perhaps a weekend or two away, but neither of us were all that bothered to spend a week or two weeks away from home. Then, Mick received an email. We've stayed at the same place in Cornwall five times in the last seven years and we really love it there. The email was offering selected past guests a special offer price for June and part of July and it really is a very good deal. Mick didn't bother telling me about the email at first as we'd decided not to have a holiday but he mentioned it in passing quite a while later and I only had to hear that and my mind was changed. We started talking about having a week away on our own as we didn't think that Eleanor would want to come with us this year but that's now changed into a fortnight and Eleanor's decided that she'd like to come too. Well, who wouldn't? A fortnight in Cornwall free of charge!

We only booked it on Wednesday and we go in a fortnight, I can't wait. We stay on a very small site, just ten lodges and two cottages, and it's always so peaceful there, the grounds are beautifully kept and it's very picturesque. It has such good facilities too, four fishing lakes, an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, spa hot tub, tennis court, games room and an outdoor play area. They also offer massages and spa and beauty treatments. It's dog friendly so Archie comes too and there's some beautiful walks on the doorstep. The site is on the north coast of Cornwall about five miles from Bude, such a lovely area with so many wonderful places to visit.

I'm sure we'll return to many of the same beauty spots we've frequented before but I'm sure we'll discover some more too. I can't wait to go now.

  1. How lovely Jo. Just what you need in this special year, so enjoy & try to find a few new delights to check out. Have you ever been to the Marble Factory? If not I'll try and find the brochure I have & give you some details. It's quite amazing. Take care.

  10. How wonderful, a surprise holiday! I think it is only fair that Eleanor "dog sits", when you want to visit places where dogs aren't allowed!!

    1. I think it's made it all the more exciting thinking that we weren't going away this year and then booking with just two weeks to go. Having a third person definitely makes things easier when you take a dog on holiday with you, even things like stocking up on provisions, it means that two of us can go inside shops whilst one waits with Archie outside.

  20. Hi Jo, you couldn't pass up the opportunity of a good deal holiday really could you? especially to such a lovely place. Fingers crossed the weather is good for you, we have been so lucky lately.
I can understand why you have given up on the Joyful World SAL, I only managed one, they were more involved than they looked. Perhaps you could just frame or mount the ones you have done, at least you would have something to display for those months and your stitching won't have been for nothing.
I love the socks you have knitted for Yarndale, you are very organised, lol.
    Have a good week

    1. It was far too good a deal to let it pass us by and now that we've booked I'm getting very excited and counting down the days. I do hope we get some sunshine but I know we'll enjoy it anyway, whatever the weather. I still love the Joyful World design, it's the fabric I chose for it which has spoilt it for me, I'm sure I'd have continued with it if I'd gone for evenweave which is much softer to work with. I may be organised in the knitting of the Yarndale socks but not in the posting, they're still sitting here waiting to be sent off.

  22. Sounds like a wonderful place! Sometimes I feel that way as well - I don't feel like going on holiday, especially during the summer when there is so much to do. More often than not, however, I'm glad for the break when the time comes.
