The V For Valentine socks were cast on for Valentine's day and I've recently finished them. The pattern is by Ellie Jones from the Craft House Magic podcast and is free on Ravelry.
I already had two pairs of socks on the needles when these were started but I just couldn't resist them with the cute heart motif on the legs.
I used some yarn that I had in my stash, a skein from Fondant Fibre, which I bought at Spring Into Wool last year. I thought it would suit the pattern well and I'm not disappointed. It's the first time that I've used Fondant Fibre and it's absolutely beautiful, it's a pleasure to knit with and looks fabulous.
Deb from Fondant Fibre seems to have closed her shop, I'm not sure why, does anyone know if she's still dyeing yarn? I'm so pleased that I've got another two skeins of Fondant Fibre in my stash.
These are another pair of socks which I'm keeping for myself. I usually relent and decide to gift many pairs of the socks I knit but not this time, I absolutely love them.
Those are indeed gorgeous! I have a feeling Eleanor may just ask for a pair once she sees you wearing them ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm almost done my most recent pair - just the toe to graft, which I'm sort of procrastinating on. I've been doing primarily vanilla(ish) type socks lately with self striping yarn, but I think I want to change it up a bit for the next pair and do an interesting pattern with a plainer yarn.
Eleanor can keep her hands off, lol. I really enjoy knitting plainer socks and letting the pattern in the yarn take over but, as you say, it's good to mix it up a bit sometimes and knit a more involved pattern. I'm all for pretty yarns and rarely buy plainer colours but I must try and remember to add some to my stash as patterns do look better in a single coloured yarn.
DeleteFabulous!
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled with these socks, I really like them.
DeletePretty yarn & of course your sock knitting is gorgeous. How well do they wear? Take care.
ReplyDeleteI can't talk for this particular pair as I haven't worn them yet but, in general, hand knit socks wear extremely well. I've never had to throw a pair away yet and none have developed a hole either. I always knit socks with yarn which have a nylon content which makes them more hard wearing.
DeleteIt does make a difference what yarn you use doesn't it? I bought some sock yarn at a car boot sale, it was an expensive yarn originally (not for me though. lol) and the difference in the feel and look is obvious.

I suppose it's like most things, you pay for what you get. Saying that, I do enjoy knitting socks with commercial yarn as well as indie dyed yarn, there's so many wonderful sock yarns on the market these days, we're spoilt for choice.
DeleteThey are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think the yarn combined with the pattern is a perfect pairing, I'm really pleased with how they've turned out.
DeleteFondant Fibre sounds rather delicious don't you think? These are really pretty, you couldn't have picked a better pattern to start on valentine's day.
ReplyDeleteFondant Fibre is delicious in every way. It's such a pretty pattern and gorgeous yarn.
DeleteThey are so cute. I love the little heart motif. X
ReplyDeleteI couldn't resist casting these socks on, the heart motif definitely caught my imagination.
DeleteThose are very pretty socks Jo. I've not bought from Fondant Fibre and not sure why she has shut her shop, shame if the yarn is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteI bought the yarn at Spring into Wool last year, it was Deb's first show. It's a shame that she's shut her shop as her yarn is beautiful.
DeleteThe socks are lovely, Jo. The lacey hearts set them off beautifully. :o)
ReplyDeleteIt's the perfect pattern to show the yarn off with just a little interest on the leg, I love these socks.
DeleteThe little hearts are sweet.
ReplyDeleteI think they make a plain pair of socks extra special.
DeleteA really pretty coloured yarn and the heart motif is so sweet, I don't blame you wanting to keep these all to yourself.

I'm determined to fill my own sock drawer this year. I really love these socks, both the yarn and the pattern are so pretty.
DeleteSuch pretty socks! I love indie dyed yarn very much, despite the costs. It doesn't matter so much because I knit very few socks these days. I manage to make a hole in a pair that I had for six years, not bad going I think. It is well worth the effort to knit socks, they seem more durable than most commercial cotton mix socks. x
ReplyDeleteI love indie dyed yarn but I do use commercial yarn too. My hand knit socks seem to last way longer than bought socks, I'm still wearing the very first pair of socks I made, and I have to say that they're one of my favourite pairs.
DeleteI wouldn't give those ones away either!
ReplyDeleteThey're firmly ensconced in my sock drawer.
DeleteThese are delightful - no wonder you don't want to give them away.
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed knitting them, both the pattern and the yarn were a joy to work with.
DeleteThese are just lovely Jo.
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of the yarn and that heart motif is wonderful. Enjoy wearing them ...
All the best Jan
I haven't worn them yet, I don't want to put them on to just stay around the house, I'm waiting to go out somewhere nice before they get their first airing.
DeleteThese are lovely Jo, I like the self patterning yarns, they make interesting patterns. The heart pattern itself is cute. Cathy x
ReplyDeleteI was looking for a speckled yarn when I bought this skein of Fondant Fibre, it's just what I wanted.
DeleteLove them, Jo, both the yarn and the design. Well done you.

I'm really pleased with them, the yarn is so soft and squishy and the pattern has enough interest but doesn't take anything away from the yarn.
