The pattern is the Oaklet Shawl by Megan Goodacre, a free pattern on Ravelry, and it's a simple design with a little extra decoration for the border.
I used yarn which I'd purchased at Spring Into Wool earlier this year, it's the Dragon Scales colourway by Third Vault Yarns in their Companion 4ply base, a 100% Superwash Merino. These photos don't do the yarn justice, it's a beautiful mix of greens, greys, blues and purples and it's iridescent so the colours seem to change when you look at it from different angles. The shawl's lovely and drapey.
This photo shows the size a little better, it's not a huge shawl being knit from just one skein but it blocks out to a decent size to wrap well around the neck. Just what I need now that the weather's turned much cooler.
Next project - Christmas socks for me. Well, it's only fair. I've knit socks for the rest of my family which they'll open up on Christmas Day so I'd like a pair to wear myself. I just hope I get them finished in time.

DeleteGorgeous - I love it, both the pattern and the yarn. I've had a shawl on the needles for over a year now that I should really get back to. It's laceweight and a big project - it's in hibernation mode as I messed up and I couldn't stand the thought of ripping back. Thankfully I did put in a lifeline a few rows back so it could be a lot worse.
ReplyDeleteI'm really pleased with both the pattern and the yarn. It's a lovely pattern if you've just got a single skein, I thought I might run out at the end but I ended up with 21g left. I'm sure you'll complete your shawl when you decide to get back to it, I get put off if I make a mistake but at least you've put a lifeline in, something I've never done but I should definitely follow your example.
DeleteThat shawl is just lovely, I have knitted 3 this year 2 were claimed by my daughter, bless her. I will be looking for the pattern later, it might be my Christmas Eve cast on, I have knitted dozens of pairs of socks this year.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a pretty pattern, the edging finishes it off perfectly. This is the first shawl that I've kept for myself. I've knit socks for everyone for Christmas this year and I've now got a pair on the needles for myself, I just hope that I get them finished in time for Christmas.

The colour of the yarn is really beautiful and it should go well with lots of outfits. I'm hoping that I get my socks finished in time for Christmas so that I'm not the only one without new socks on Christmas Day.
Deletehow beautiful. At least your weather/ early darkness to conducive to knitting! I'm still knitting, but with a fan on as summer has come wham and we are already at 27 degrees which is madness for 7 days in of official summer!

ReplyDeleteI visited the Third Vault Yarns stand lots of times at Spring Into Wool, I couldn't decide on which colourway to go with and it was Mick who finally made the decision for me. I'm really pleased with it, it's different from other colourways I've gone with in the past, something a bit out of the ordinary for me.
