I used a basic sock pattern for these socks but changed the heel to a slip stitch heel which makes it a little more durable.
The Opal yarn felt very rough and scratchy when I first started using it but it does seem to have softened a little and perhaps it will ease more with wear. I'm happy how easy it was to match the pattern. The yarn is the 'Moments of...' range which reflects emotional moments experienced through life, the one I've used is colourway 9087, Rebellion.
Even though this project is now finished, my needles haven't stayed empty for long, there's been a few new projects cast on which I'll tell you about at a later date.
Mick's socks look great, sorry can't help with a name as I'm terrible a naming projects, lol.

I think I'll have to set myself a challenge to come up with better names for my projects. I've got quite a few things on the needles at the moment so I'll share them soon.

DeleteI often get blocks when it comes to the title, as alot of what I say and show has been done before, it hard to clever. Love the socks, still not sorted a pattern for me to try yet.

DeleteThese are cool, very manly. No doubt Mick just calls them 'socks' - if he is anything like my own husband that is. I can't imagine Richard stand in front of the sock drawer pondering whether to wear the 'rebellious' socks or the 'stormfront' socks. Me, I like a name that can be associated with style, colour etc.

Your comment made me laugh, no, I couldn't imagine Mick in that scenario either. I like the colour of these socks, they're a good design for a man. You might just get a little wear out of your socks if you get them finished before the warmer weather comes.

ReplyDeleteVariegated yarn is such a great invention, it provides some great patterns without the work of having to change colour. Mick's pleased with his hand knitted socks so I doubt these will be the last pair I make for him.

I've got lots of pairs of needles in use at the moment, I've cast on lots of new projects. Hand knit socks are so warm, perfect for when you're out and about.
Deletei do like the self patterning yarns, I haven't tried Opal though. Fabel is a bit scratchy but softens up after a couple of washes.
ReplyDeleteI've only used Opal yarn on two occasions and I can't say I'm overly impressed. I've got some Fabel in my stash but haven't got round to knitting it up yet.

Ha ha, that made me laugh. The one thing about hand knitted socks is their cosiness so it's not great if the yarn is scratchy.

I think there will be more and more of Mick's socks now he's started with hand knits. There's so much choice with yarn these days, so many lovely colourways.

I still have the same pair on the needles from a couple of months ago but I usually prefer to do easier knitting when watching tv so these are a before bed project, together with a shawl. Now I just have to figure out how get to bed earlier so that I can fit in a few more rows before I nod off.

DeleteOne can never have enough knitted socks (I do though so am working my way through socks for workmates). I'm waiting for a package of Drops Fabel sock wool and a couple of new pairs of circulars from The Wool Warehouse in the UK to arrive - incredibly cheap sock wool that goes far for me.

DeleteNice pattering of the Opel wool, Dh found it softened quite a bit when I knitted him a pair, I didn't find it too nice to knit with though.
