Plodding On

I'm still plodding on with my Spice Of Life Crochet Along blanket. The crochet along actually finished a long time ago now, but I knew I wouldn't keep up with the schedule and that this would be a long term project for me.

I'm over half way though now. There's lots of different stitches in the first half of the blanket and then when you reach the half way mark, the stitches are repeated, though they're crocheted in different colours to those used previously.

I'm not particularly keen on the first lot of colours used in the second half of the blanket. There seems to be too many darker colours used together, not at all in keeping with the first half, but I'll reserve judgement and see how it all pans out.

I'm beginning to worry that I won't have enough yarn left. I've got very little of some colours and looking ahead, I can see that they're to be used again. I think I shall either have to buy more yarn or change the colours suggested in the pattern.

I've got lots of other projects that I want to start but I'm determined to get the things I'm working on at the moment finished first before embarking on anything new.

I'm joining in with Jennifer's Winter Project Link Party over on her Thistlebear blog. Do pop over and take a look what it's all about, and how about joining in with the fun? I'm sure many of you have projects on the go for winter.

  1. I do think it's lovely, it'd be a great way to use up odds and ends if you need to use more yarn xx

    1. It's a good stash buster blanket, however, I really wanted to follow the colours suggested. It's a shame they don't stretch far enough.

  2. I absolutely love this blanket Jo. I hope you are pleased with when you reach the end, it can be tricky to tell when it's not complete. I'm certain it'll be gorgeous.

  4. It is looking good, this blanket! I would change the colours, rather than buying more yarn. x

    1. I really wanted to use the colours suggested but I doubt I'll buy more yarn when I'll probably only need each ball for a row or two. We'll see.

    1. I taught myself to crochet a few years ago with the help of a book and You Tube tutorials. I wouldn't say I'm brilliant at it but I'm getting more confident as I try new things. This blanket has been good as I've got to learn lots of new stitches whilst making it.

    1. I'm sure it wouldn't take you long to pick it up with your craft skills. I wanted to learn to crochet just so that I could make blankets, they're wonderful for snuggling in.

    1. I hate having to pull things back, all the time taken just to have to do it again, but it's better than having it wrong. It would really annoy me if I knew there were mistakes in it which I could have rectified.

    1. I followed the suggested colours in the pattern so I can't take credit for putting them together, they work so well though. I know the yarn definitely won't stretch far enough to continue with the suggested colour pattern, I think I'll just have to substitute some colours for others which I've got more of.

  9. You're doing well and the colours are nicer than mine, but I only bought my wool locally and not in a pack for the project. It is rather too bright for me, but I'm nearly finished and have something planned once I'm done. As for finishing things up, I've already made a start with some of my quilt projects and do still want to try a couple of new things that I've not done before, but definitely no challenges, just do whatever I feel is right for the time I have available. We'll talk soon. Take care.

    1. I'm sure you're blanket is lovely with the colours you've chosen. I certainly wouldn't have thought to put these colours together myself but I think they work so well, I'm very happy with how the blanket's turning out so far. I've got some new things to try my hand at this year but I'm resisting starting anything else until I've finished some other projects first.

  15. I quite like how the blanket is looking as well. My "tv watching" project is a knit blanket, as they do take a long time to complete, although before Christmas I switched to a couple of projects that were to be gifted over the holidays.

    1. That usually happens around Christmas time, doesn't it? Projects get put on hold while a bit of seasonal crafting takes place. I've never attempted a knitted blanket but it's something I'd like to have a go at sometime in the future.

    1. I started this crochet along knowing that it would be a long term project and that I wouldn't keep up with the schedule. I think there's quite a few of us still plodding along with it.

  19. Keep going! It will be lovely when it's done. I finished mine (natch) but I.... well, I don't actually like the colours (I know, not happy!) and I'm not convinced it will stay in my house. I might have to make another one for me......

    1. It's such a shame that you don't like the colours you've used but I'm sure that someone will and they'll be able to give it a good home. I'm really pleased with the colours of this but I'm running out of some yarn so I don't think it will be finished in the colours it's meant to be.

  20. The blanket is looking good. I like the different stitches that you need to use. It's a shame about running out of the yarn suggested. Every time our daughter comes to stay she gently teases me about my lack of progress with crocheting, but if I have time to spare it's my reading I concentrate on.

    1. It is a shame about the yarn running out in the colours I should be using, it's quite a bit short so I think I shall have to use a different colour. I'm always spoilt for choice when I get a bit of free time, I have so many hobbies. If only there were more hours in the day.

  24. Hi Jo, thanks for joining in with my link party. Your blanket is looking beautiful! I'm sorry about the yarn shortage, but I'm sure you'll find good replacement yarns to use. I think it's such an eclectic project already, it will be fine to add your own supplemental yarn. I hope you're having a good week.

    1. I'm enjoying the monthly link party, it's keeping me going with my blanket. I think you're probably right and any supplemented yarn won't be noticed, I do hope so anyway.

  25. It's coming on nicely Jo. I suppose it depends how much yarn you're short of, as to whether you buy some more or substitute some from your stash. If they are colours that you would use for another project, it wouldn't be the end of the world to buy some more. xx

    1. I haven't quite got up to the rows that I'm going to be short for yet but like you say, I suppose it will depend on which colours they are as to how I handle it. I'll probably just use other colours and I doubt it will matter too much with this pattern.

    1. I know many people are much quicker with their projects than I am, but I don't mind mine taking longer, it's sometimes nice to plod along. The blanket's at the stage now where it keeps me warm whilst I'm working on it, which is great now that the cold weather has arrived.
