The lilac tree is in full bloom and it's looking beautiful.
I don't know what variety it is, it was already in the garden when we moved here back in 1993, but it's the most wonderful colour, much darker than most lilacs you see.
It also has the most glorious scent. I look forward to it blooming every year.
This is lovely! I have lilac in the garden too, I can't get enough of it. I wish it would last longer cut and in a vase, I'd love to be able to fill the house with it but it fades so quickly.
ReplyDeleteWe had a lilac in our garden when I was a child so I was pleased to find one here when we moved in, it's grown a lot since then. I've actually never cut any for indoors but I can see the attraction, the scent is fabulous.
DeleteOh it's beautiful! We have a lilac in our garden but it's still in bud, no flowers yet. Yours is very dark, it almost looks like buddleia (sure I've spelt that wrong!) xx
ReplyDelete10 out of 10 for spelling. It is like a buddleia, quite unusual for a lilac but I like it being a little different, it's a fabulous colour. You've got yours to look forward to yet.

DeleteNote to self - buy a lilac tree for the garden! I have always loved lilacs, there were six trees at the top of the garden of my childhood home. But my Mum would never pick it to put in a vase as she said it was unlucky to have it in the house (she had a whole list of things which were unlucky!!)
ReplyDeleteI've heard of that superstition before. I must admit that I've never cut any for indoors, though not through superstition. They're beautifful trees and have the added bonus of a fabulous scent too.
DeleteWe have the same dark lilac, mine was a sucker from one that my Grandad had; I have no idea where that came from. We only have the first flowers out, but I'm looking forward to more. Spring took a bit of a backwards step yesterday with hailstones and torrential rain - hope you stayed dry! xx
ReplyDeleteI think it's lovely when you can trace a plant back, this lilac was here before we were. The rain has caught me both yesterday and today whilst I've been dog walking. We had hailstones just an hour ago yet the sun's shining again now, it's been very mixed here today.
DeleteI've got a lilac in my garden that came from my Grandad's garden. It's white. It's always puzzled me why it's called a "lilac" and not a "white"! ;o)

Years ago I had lavender shaded ones, but it has been a long time.
It's a fabulous colour, I agree. Pale pink sounds beautiful too. I don't think lilacs are as popular as they once were but they're lovely plants, it's a shame.

DeleteSo pretty, Jo. I love lilacs too. I have a small "volunteer" lilac in my front yard. It grows out of a bigger juniper. This spring, for the first time ever, it flowered! I had two tiny sprigs of blossom. I didn't cut them, it seemed wrong to bring them inside, but I sniffed them at least once a day! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's brilliant when a lovely plant turns up all of it's own accord. I get a few self seeders in my garden but they're usually just run of the mill things, I wish something truly spectacular would put in an appearance.

Lilacs always remind me of a song that Eleanor was taught at her singing lessons, My Father Has A Garden With Many Lilac Trees. My dad's much better now, thank you. The recovery from keyhole surgery is so fast.

ReplyDeleteI probably wouldn't have planted a lilac in the garden myself, even though I do love them. This one was here when we moved in and I'm so pleased it was because I love it.
