We don't often go in to the centre of Leeds but we had to take Eleanor's prom dress for alterations to the length and whilst walking along Briggate, saw a talented young man making sculptures out of sand.

Isn't this fabulous? I remember my dad making speed boats out of sand on the beach for us to sit in when we were kids. My talents with sand stop with sandcastles and even then, more often than not, they aren't fully formed when I remove the plastic bucket.
Brilliant! I've seen pictures of sand art elsewhere and I'm always in awe of them. Needless to say I'm as talented as you are! Flighty xx

DeleteWe live by the seaside and used to always be down the beach as children building sandcastles and digging moats etc. Even with all that practice, I'd never be able to do something as amazing as that! Wow! :o)
ReplyDeleteYou've just brought back memories of building huge sandcastles as a child, then running down to the sea to bring back water to pour in the moat, which always drained away quicker than you could fill it up again. Happy memories.

ReplyDeleteIt's such a shame that these sculptures get washed away. We've had a few downpours here today, only to be expected in the Easter holidays I suppose. I was looking forward to a few lie ins but Eleanor's still in school four days out of the five this week as she has GCSE revision classes to attend.

ReplyDeleteI remember making big holes too. We used to stand in them up to our necks. It certainly wasn't anything near as creative as this is.

ReplyDeleteI think they're even more fabulous when you come across them in a place you wouldn't expect them.
DeleteVery clever and a shame it can't be a permanent piece of art, but I suppose that's the fascinating thing about sand sculptures and working in sand. You want to make another, whether it's a sandcastle or something more elaborate, when one is completed and then it gets demolished.
ReplyDeleteIt is only temporary art, as you say, I think that adds to the appeal somehow, though I'd be really upset if I'd created something as wonderful and I couldn't keep it.
