I got the Owl Fingerless Mitts knitted up in no time at all.
I used Sirdar Supersoft Aran in Kingfisher, a colour which Eleanor chose herself. It took less than half a ball so there's plenty left for another pair.
I actually got a bit stuck on the pattern, it had abbreviations which I hadn't come across before, T4Bpk and T4Fpk, but I found their meanings after doing a search online. It's not that the stitches are hard, I think if you know how to knit and purl you're well away, it's just learning the meanings of all the terms.
Eleanor's pleased with them and I might even knit a pair for myself seeing as I have plenty of yarn left over.
How cute are these :0) They're fab. No doubt all Eleanor's friends will be wanting you to knit them a pair too. Keep your knitting needles to hand! x
ReplyDeleteEleanor's friends are always complimentary about the things I knit for her, I don't think any of them have parents who knit so they'd probably quite like it if I knit them some.
DeleteFabulous Jo, lovely colour and aran yarn does knit up pretty quick, quite thrifty on the yardage too. x
ReplyDeleteI love the colour too, it's one of Eleanor's favourites. I was surprised by how much yarn I had left, I might even get three pairs out of the one ball.
DeleteThey look great Jo! I'm sure that they will get lots of use. xx
ReplyDeleteThey're great for the weather we've got now, a bit of a chill but not too cold. I think she'll need fingers in her gloves when the very cold weather hits.
DeleteLovely mitts, really cute, nice colour too, I'm sure your daughter will be the envy of her friends, nice when something knits up quickly and you have immediate use
ReplyDeleteI much prefer knitting smaller items, ones which don't take long to finish, rather than a bigger project. I tend to get bored quite easily when knitting. Eleanor's really happy with them.
DeleteJo they are so cute and the colour is perfect. I started knitting some boot cuffs for myself last night. I'll post the pattern later this week. Really easy cables but looks amazingly hard! I think I might need them to drive to work x
ReplyDeleteThese are perfect for this type of weather, they keep the chill out but I think something a bit more substantial will be needed when it gets colder. The boot cuffs sound great. I haven't had a lot of practice with cables.
DeleteThey look good. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. They were surprisingly easy to knit. Owls seem to be the in thing at the moment, so Eleanor's pleased with them.
DeleteLovely colour and as owls are very popular the mitts look very effective with the button eyes.
ReplyDeleteI bought the buttons especially for this project back in the summer. I only bought four but I wish I'd bought another four now as I'm going to knit another pair.
DeleteJo, they're really beautiful! The work is so intricate and detailed. I love the color too. I know Eleanor will wear them with pride.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It really is an easy pattern though and they were a pleasurable knit. Eleanor loves them so I'm pleased about that.
DeleteThey are really cute - what a clever way to use cable stitch. Jx
ReplyDeleteIt's really clever how the stitches define the owl shape. It was fascinating watching the pattern emerge.
DeleteThey are just gorgeous and sometimes the abbreviations can be confusing. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI learn as I go along so that's another abbreviation I now know. The internet is a great way to find out what things mean.
DeleteThe gloves look fab, Jo. Great job! :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you. They were an easy knit once I'd got my head round the abbreviations.
DeleteLove them, I have such a weakness for owls. I do have the pattern to make them from a magazine, but haven't knitted for ages, but they look so good :) xx
ReplyDeleteI love owls too and they're so popular at the moment. Just beware if you're following the pattern from Simply Knitting, it had some mistakes in it. If you follow the link in my post, it gives you the corrected pattern.
DeleteThey are gorgeous Jo. You have made a great job of them!
ReplyDeleteThank you. They're fun if nothing else.
DeleteHi Jo they look great!! Glad you found the correct pattern link, I think I left that on mine as well, as there were mistakes in the magazine. Mikayla wears hers. She has since cast her eyes on an owl fair isle pair, in a book my Mum sent me, would be a good challenge!
ReplyDeleteI got the pattern from your link so didn't have to go searching for it. The fair isle pair sound great, it's a very long time since I've given it a go though, don't know if I'm that brave now.
DeleteSo cute! I can see why Eleanor loved them.
ReplyDeleteLisa x
It's clever how they're knitted up to make the owl, and really easy to do too.
Deletehow lovely, and such a great idea. I have oddments of aran in a few colours so may just give these a try. Thanks, so much inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI hope you do give it a go, they're such a lovely idea, and the pattern is so easy.
DeleteThese are adorable! I love the color of the gloves :) I love all things with owls on them.
