It All Went Well

Thank you for all your good wishes for Daniel as he headed off to university.

We set off nice and early yesterday morning and he was the first one in his house to arrive. He likes his room, he's got both a bath and a shower so he's pleased about that. This is the view from his window.

He'd got speaking to a few people who had arrived before we left and he had an event to attend last night as part of Freshers Week. There's lots going on, both during the day and each evening. Tonight he's going on a pub crawl around York. I think they may be expecting to lose a few along the way as this is the t-shirt they've all been given to wear.

There's a few meetings and introductory workshops this week, and then his lessons start properly next week. It may come as a bit of a shock to many of them after all the partying going on this week.

    1. I'm sure he'll enjoy this first week. From what I've seen, York is a great place to study. It helps that it's in such a great city too, I love York.

  2. Pleased to hear that Daniel is settling in. KL has her first lesson this afternoon. I know that she has Wednesdays and Fridays off, and today she is only in from 2pm-4pm! Very different from the timetable I had on my teaching degree!

  3. What a scary T-shirt. Hope all goes well for Daniel on this new journey. Actually, and for the rest of the family with big changes in the years ahead as the children grow and mature.

    1. I laughed when I saw the t-shirt, they're not taking any chances. Thank you for your good wishes. We start all over again now with Eleanor sitting her GCSE's this school year.

  4. How exciting for him and for you. I remember when our daughter left for University, we were living in Izmir, Turkey (Mac was in the Army) and she had to fly back to Georgia. I had a friend meet her and drive up to the University with her. It was so hard putting her on that flight. But she survived, had a ball at school.

  8. I'm so glad it got off to a good start. That shirt is funny; my husband could have used one like that when he was in school. :)

  10. That T-shirt is great!!! I'm glad that Daniel has got nice accommodation and you feel confident that he's in the right place too. That must do quite a bit to calm any parental worries!!! All the best, Jx

    1. I think the fact that he got his first choice of uni, and the accommodation he wanted too, has eased my nerves, I don't think I'd have felt quite so calm if he was heading off to a uni which he wasn't so sure about.

    1. There's 16 of them in his house and they've all been hanging out together so far, but I'm sure they'll all split off in to their own little groups eventually. There'll be people he meets on his course as well as others from the clubs and societies he chooses to join too.

  13. Ahhh, Freshers Week, I remember it well (for me it was very recent indeed!) - it's the time when you get fed up of telling people what your name is, where you're from and what you're studying! But it is also deeply enjoyable as you begin to meet those people who will become an important part of your life - personal and academic - for the next three years.

Glad he's settling in and it's all going well. It won't be long until you find a visitor on your doorstep with a mountain of laundry though, I'm sure ;-)

    Best wishes,

    1. I think he'll probably save up the laundry for me, though he might surprise me and learn how to use a washing machine, who knows? I know he's enjoying getting to meet new people, it's all so exciting and new at the moment.

  14. Lord, fresher's week - that takes me back! I'm glad the drop off went smoothly. I hope you're ok and not missing him too much, At least he's only an hour away at most - he'll probably be home in a few weeks with his washing! x

    1. We're only half an hour away at the most, door to door to the university, so it's not bad. I actually got four glasses out when I was setting the table last night, I think it will take some getting used to him not being here. I'm sure he'll be home just as soon as he needs a load of washing doing.

  15. Glad it all went well with the drop-off and the accommodation looks and sounds good. You must have peace of mind knowing Daniel got his first choice and he's looking forward to his studies and the social aspects of uni life. An amusing t-shirt! Hope he enjoys Freshers' Week and soon settles in.
