I can do it. I can ripple. Though I had serious doubts I'd ever be able to master it when I was trying to do the first row. It took me three attempts to get it right, but once you get your head around the increases and decreases, it's easy.

I'm loving the repetitive pattern, it's so relaxing and easy to do whilst chatting or watching tv as you really don't need to concentrate. It's an Attic24 pattern, the Neat Ripple Pattern, and as usual with Lucy's patterns, it's so easy to follow.

I started with 171 chains, (12X14+3), and this has made a width which will fit nicely on a single bed. It will hang over a little and the border will widen it a little more. I'm making this blanket for Daniel so it's being made in boy colours and I'm loving how the colours are working together.

I'm still working on my One A Day blanket too, I'll give you an update on that soon.
I think it would suit Archie very well. It's lovely, I like the colours you've used. I don't think I could watch TV if I attempted anything like that.
ReplyDeleteArchie's not getting it, he's already got a granny square blanket which I crocheted him. It's really easy once you get going, though I did have to sit in silence until I'd completed the first row.
DeleteI love the ripple pattern and began my own blanket in February (mine is a 10x14+3), but the only problem with doing a large-ish blanket is that about half-way through it begins to dawn on you just how long it's taking! I have had to put mine down to concentrate on other things and now that it's spring, I feel that the urge to crochet has diminished slightly and instead been replaced by the urge to photograph and sew. It will get finished, but now that it's not so cold and we don't need a snuggly sofa blanket quite as much, it might take quite a while to finish.

I don't mind a long project, I'm only crocheting one granny square each day for my One A Day blanket so that one will certainly take some time to finish. I don't sew, but could imagine if I did it would be a summer hobby and crochet a winter one. The only other thing taking my time in summer is gardening, though we do tend to have more days out in the better weather so I suppose that will slow me down. I like blues too, I'm enjoying rippling away with these colours.
DeleteImpressed, deeply impressed! I made one blanket with three trebles and a chain (no idea if that's the proper term) about 25 years ago and started another but there's just not enough time to do everything ..... you're making me think of getting the unfinished one out again though :}
ReplyDeleteI think you mean a granny stripe blanket. I've never made one of those but I fancy having a go, a future project maybe. Definitely resurrect your unfinished blanket, even if you only work on it once in a while, it will get nearer to completion.

DeleteI wish that I could crochet. I love those colours and how cute Archie is admiring your handiwork. Charlie, our dachshund would have sat on it and refused to budge. He is a nuisance when you're stripping a bed he just sits on the bedlinen and refuses to move!

How about signing up for a crochet course? I've only been crocheting less than two years, it's so easy once you get going. It does make me laugh when you talk about Charlie, he sounds such a character.

Thank you. Archie does like his comfort, blankets or cushions, he doesn't mind, he has both in his bed. I find it hard to imagine what colours will look like together once they're worked so I'm really pleased with how these are turning out.

DeleteI love Lucy's ripple pattern and have made 3 - or 4 - blankies using it. Once you get to the stage that you don't need to look at the written pattern, it's much easier to do. Yours looks fabulous! :o)

ReplyDeleteI was going to work the colours in a different combination, but I asked Daniel how he'd like me to work them, as the blanket is for him, and this is what he chose. I think it's working out well.
DeleteLove the blanket. Learning to crochet is on the " To Do" list. Grant you the to do list is longer than the done list.

I've wanted to attempt a ripple for some time now and I'm not disappointed in how it's turning out, I love it. The pattern was a bit tricky at first as I've never increased or decreased before, but once I'd got the hang of that, it's easy.

It's a couple of years now since we took Archie to puppy training classes at Temple Newsam, but from what I can remember, you pay a membership fee, I think it was about £5, then you pay a weekly fee each time you go, I think it was about £2. You don't have to go every week, just turn up as and when, it's very informal. As you go through the main gates, take the main drive up to the house and the classes are held on the grass on the left hand side. They're held on a Sunday morning from 9am if I remember correctly. I hope this helps.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure we will bump in to each other one day, as you say, we're not that far away from each other, and we often visit the same places. I thought the ripple pattern looked complicated, but it really isn't, it's a nice, easy, repetitive pattern. Have a look at the link I've included, it's so straightforward.

The mid blue is actually called denim. You're too kind, I can get by but most people who can knit or crochet are usually better at it than me. Archie is a cutie.
