Simply Crochet

I was alerted to the fact that a new magazine, Simply Crochet, was being launched this month, by Amanda over at Eight by Six. I try not to buy magazines these days as I find they're usually very expensive, and this one is no exception at £4.99 per issue. I wouldn't have bothered with it had it not been for the fact that there's a deal on at the moment, three issues for £5.00, so I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm not brilliant at crochet, and I've never read or followed a pattern, but I think there's things in here which would be easy enough for me to have a go at, as well as some more advanced projects. I've loved making cushions and blankets, and there's lots of inspiration for future ventures in here.

There's lots of heart designs, all ready for Valentine's Day, but I love these heart sachets. I may give them a go.

I don't think I'll continue with the magazine at it's full price, but it's certainly worth the offer price.

  1. What a great deal of inspiration. The little hearts are cute.

    1. I only learnt to crochet a couple of years ago, and I'm still a novice, but I love it. I really need to master sewing next.

  2. I tried to make a heart last night, I was ok to round 4 then something went wrong! I'll try again this week. Amanda x

    1. Hope you get the hang of it. I've just started new knitting and crochet projects so everything else will have to wait, for now. There's some lovely things in the magazine though, so I'll get round to them eventually.

    1. There's so many great magazines out there at the moment, it's so hard to resist them, but I was pleased with this offer. I won't be paying full price though.

  4. I had no idea crafting magazines were so expensive! The offer makes them much more affordable doesn't it? It does look like it has some lovely things to make. I think your crochet is brilliant!

    1. Awww, thank you, Scarlet. There's so much I want to learn, I just wish there were more hours in the day. I love magazines, but I've really managed to curb my spending on them. I don't mind offers, but £4.99 is really expensive, especially when you can gain more inspiration from the talented people who write blogs.

  5. I can't crochet though wish I could! I agree with you magazines are expensive and I won't buy those that the retailer places in plastic wallets so that you can't see what's inside before you buy. If they have such little faith in their own product then why should the consumer buy it.

    1. I totally agree with you about magazines in plastic wallets. Another ploy to get you to buy is giving away free gifts, they're often something you don't want, but you feel you're getting a bargain. Try watching the videos on YouTube about starting to crochet, that's what got me started.

  6. I have never got the hang of crochet. I agree with you about the price of magazines. The exchange rate that they apply to them here is way above the market rate. My Son picks up BBC Good Food Magazine and Gardners World magazine for me when he comes home every couple of weeks.

    1. I used to have a subscription to Gardeners World magazine, but cancelled it last year. There's so many magazines which I'd love to read, but you've got to draw the line somewhere.

  7. I find mags really expensive but they are less so in Charity shops. The problem is that you have to wait until the one you like appears. I find plenty of inspiration free on the web.

    1. Blog reading can certainly take the place of magazines. As you say, there's so much inspiration on the web, plus there's tutorials too. I learnt to crochet by watching YouTube videos.

    1. They're perfect for Valentine's Day. They can be filled with lavender too, so they become scented hearts.

    1. We all need a treat sometimes, and I don't mind paying the offer price, but £4.99 per issue is a bit steep. I'm looking forward to the next two issues now.

    1. Sorry, I shouldn't have alerted you to the fact that it's been released, I bet you won't be able to resist looking at it, even if you don't buy it.

  11. I was in WHSmiths recently and nearly died when I saw a magazine (a quarterly one) for £8!! They are so expensive, I agree. I've found that since reading blogs I've bought less magazines - I just have two subscriptions (Mollie Makes and Country Living) and I, mostly, keep to those!

    1. You can buy books cheaper than magazines these days. I've never bought Mollie Makes, I've had a quick flick through when I've seen it on sale. I like Country Living, but I'm trying to be good and not spend too much on magazines.

  12. I used to buy lots of magazines, but found the crafty ones a bit of a waste as most of the things in them were things I wouldn't make. Not so bad when you get a good deal like that though. The little hearts look sweet. xx

  13. Wow what fabulous projects and colour schemes. I have sold craft mags on ebay - they go really well - even the very old copies! I'll tip you off when the golf cafe is open in Elsecar, I know the girl who is moving into it - it should be nice when it opens. xxxxx

    1. I've never thought of selling craft magazines on Ebay, I can imagine them being quite popular. It would be great if you could let me know about the golf cafe, it's a lovely park and the facilities can only add to it.

  14. PS Did you pop to Wentworth when you went to Elsecar last time - it is literally less than half a mile away and is gorgeous. It has a stunning Wool Barn that opens Sundays - let me know if you need any info. xxxx

    1. We didn't go to Wentworth, but I've put it on my places to visit, perhaps on a Sunday then now that you mention the Wool Barn. I'm still trying to make a trip to The Yorkshire Sculpture Park too, after seeing your posts, it's just finding the time to fit everything in.
