Challenge Update - January

My 2013 challenges are:-

1) Watch one old film each month.

2) List five items on Ebay each month.

3) Have a date night with Mick each month.

The film I watched in January was Brief Encounter. I'd heard a lot about it, being one of the classics, but had never seen it before. It's based on Noel Coward's play Still Life, and stars Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard as Laura and Alec, two people who meet in a railway waiting room and fall in love, though they're both already married. I really enjoyed this film, and it's one I shall definitely watch again.

I did manage to list five items on Ebay, though it was rather late in the month and the auctions haven't yet finished, but two items already have bids, and I have watchers on another two.

Our date night was a meal out at Bella Italia, purely because I'd exchanged some Tesco Clubcard vouchers for restaurant vouchers and they were running out. Every £5 in Clubcard vouchers can be exchanged for £20 in restaurant vouchers, so it worked out to be a very inexpensive date. We enjoyed having a little alone time, and the meal was lovely.

The first month of the year has gone by so fast, I can't believe it's the first day of February tomorrow.

  1. What lovely challenges. I love Brief encounter, though I think one of my favourite oldies is The Old Maid with Bette Davis... sob! Bargain date meal, what a good idea :) xx

    1. I've never seen The Old Maid, I shall certainly watch out for it now. I always use my Tesco Clubcard vouchers for things like meals or magazine subscriptions, it makes things such good value that way.

    1. I was a bit late getting my items listed on Ebay, but I got there in the end. I'm hoping that this particular challenge makes me a bit of money.

  3. What a nice start to the year - lots of romance! I love going out with Mark every couple of weeks or so. There's something about sitting across a table and chatting properly that helps to keep our relationship on track. I look forward to reading your February up-date! Jx

    1. It's very rare that Mick and I go out on our own, so I'm looking forward to spending a little more time together. I'm thinking of places I'd like to go on our dates.

    1. Thank you. I'm hoping that I can stay on track for the rest of the year. I think the Ebaying will be the hardest to keep up, though five items does seem manageable.

    1. We very rarely go to the cinema, but we do like to eat out. I'm thinking of other things to do or places to visit on our dates.

  6. Were having our second date night tomorrow as I have a Friday off work so we are going to have a pizza and father-in-law will be our taxi both ways so it won't cost much. I do think we need to have a date night to keep in touch with one and other and bring back the old spark we may have lost bringing up our children x

    1. Have a lovely time tonight. It's nice that you don't have to worry about taxis, and you can both have a drink too. I think marriages are put on the back burner once children come along and it can be hard to remember what it was like before them when it was just the two of you.

    1. There's lots of old films I haven't seen, and some good ones which I'd like to watch again, that's why I've set myself this challenge. I'm trying to decide which to film to watch in February now.

  8. You've started well. I have seen BE, a long time ago now, but I did enjoy it.
And a meal out for the 2 of you, what a treat.

    1. I can't remember the last time that Mick and I had a meal out alone. I think these date nights are going to take some getting used to.

  9. I know, where did January go?! I've never seen that film either, which is something I must clearly remedy.

    1. There's so many old films I've heard about but never seen, so I'm hoping to get to see some of them this year.
