Kool Kotton

You may remember a few posts back when we visited Haworth, I mentioned that we had called in to Coldspring Mill. I've been here a couple of times before, a really good place for picking up bargains of the yarny kind.

With my granny square blanket coming to an end, I've just got the border to do now, I was looking for a new project. I've decided that I'm going to make a cushion cover so I was looking for some cotton yarn to make it with.

I came across Kool Kotton by James C. Brett, it's a brand I've never used before. This yarn is 50% cotton and 50% acrylic and machine washable, a necessity with a cushion cover as they get so much use in this house, we do like our comfort. It's so soft and squishy that it should make a very pleasing cushion cover.

The colours I've gone for are KK11 tomato, KK 7 coral and KK 12 olive. Not a colour combination I would usually go with, but it will make for an interesting outcome, I hope!

I've got another crochet project in the pipeline too, but I'll save that for another time.

  1. I'm sure your colour combination will be a good choice. They look slightly autumnal. A blanket in those colours would also look great.

  2. I like your colours very much. I recently bought some Annell cotton yarn from Yvestown as I wanted somethng washable and non-scratchy for a scarf. Haven't started the scarf yet though... I'm looking forward to seeing your granny square blanket when it is finished though.

  7. I was going to post exactly the same as June!! Lovely colours, I'd love to learn how to crochet - I can just chain, I've tried youtube, books and Mum's tutorial on her blog but I can't do it, I really need someone to show me, in the meantime I'll gaze with awe at what all the Crocheters are doing, loving the colour combination

  9. I thought you were making up your own spelling using Kool Kotton but who would know it was a brand name.

  10. Hi Jo, I do like your colour choice.I have never heard of that mill shop before, but then again I dont think it would be Tony's cup of tea (unless of course it has a tea shop with cake) and I tend to visit Haworth with him (I let him drive us!).
I have almost finished my cushion cover that I began knitting a couple of weeks ago.I dont know what I'm going to do next though.

  12. Thank you for all your lovely comments.

June - I taught myself to crochet last year from tutorials on You Tube. Have a go, if I can do it, anyone can.

Scarlet - I'll definitely be taking some crochet, knitting and reading on holiday with me, but I haven't yet decided which projects. I'm quite happy to sit and entertain myself while the rest of them are off fishing.

Helen - If you've got a local yarn shop, they sometimes do workshops where they teach you to crochet, or you could look for a knit and natter group, I'm sure someone would be happy to help you learn.

Anne - It just so happens that there is a tea room at Coldspring Mill, as well as an outdoor shop too. You could leave Tony with a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst you browse the knitter's paradise.

  14. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment, Katie. I think it will be a while before I'm showcasing the completed cushion, I haven't even started it yet and I'm not the fastest when it comes to crochet, the granny blanket I'm just finishing has taken me over a year.
