What a wonderful weekend we've just had. It was Jack's second birthday on Saturday, how those two years have passed in the blink of an eye. Eleanor and Jacob decided not to throw a party this year but had an open house for family instead.
Mick and I, along with Daniel and Jasmine, went round in the morning to give Jack his presents. The slide we bought him was a huge success, once he'd opened it there was no counting how many times he was up and down.
As always, books attracted his attention. I'm so pleased that he's a little bookworm, he loves to be read to but he's just as happy to look at a book and turn the pages himself. He got so many presents, he was opening them all day. Jacob's family don't live close by so we left before lunch time so they could spend the majority of the day with him, they don't see him as often as we do. We returned early evening just before they left so that we could spend another hour with him before bedtime.
Yesterday was Father's Day and we spent it with Daniel, Jasmine, Eleanor, Jacob and Jack at Sandsend on the east coast. As we came over the moors it got rather misty and as we arrived on the beach there was a sea fret, or a coastal fog, which occurs when warm air blows over the cold sea causing the moisture to condense into a thick mist. It happens mostly on the east coast of the UK. We couldn't even see the sea.
Sandsend is a small village with a lovely beach about three miles up the coast from Whitby and is popular with fossil hunters. A beck, or small stream, cuts across the sand. You can see steam rising from it in the photo above as the sea fret was clearing and the heat of the sun began to work its magic.
Jack loves the seaside, he's happy digging in the sand, collecting pebbles or playing in the water. The beck is ideal for him as it's shallow and there's no waves to splash him.
It doesn't mean he won't get wet though, that's what becomes of crouching a little too low. Eleanor was well prepared with a change of clothes.
We went off for a little walk. As you can see, it wasn't very busy, I was surprised as it was a beautiful day once the mist lifted.
I think Jack enjoyed his birthday weekend very much and Mick and Jacob enjoyed Father's Day. I certainly enjoyed spending time with my family, such special memories made every time we're together.
I'm going to sign off the blog for a little while now, we shall be going on holiday soon but I will catch up with all your lovely posts on my return.
Best memories are with family, how quickly he is growing up.
ReplyDeleteThey don't stay babies long enough.
DeleteHappy 2nd birthday to Jack. He just keeps getting cuter and cuter. Happy Father's Day to Mick and Jacob too.
ReplyDeleteThank you. He's at a lovely age, interested in everything.
DeleteHow can Jack be 2 already! Where does the time go. He looks a lovely chap full of wonder for everything he sees, the perfect child. So glad you all had two lovely family celebrations and hope you have a great holiday.
ReplyDeleteThank you. He's such a good little boy, no trouble at all, though the terrible twos could arrive at any time, haha.
DeleteThey grow up so quickly don't they. I bed he will enjoy his slide.
ReplyDeleteThey do. He loved his slide as soon as he opened it, I think it's going to see a lot of use this summer.
DeleteHappy birthday to Jack. Your little grandson is growing up so quickly. Lovely to spend time together as a family, both for Jack's special day and on Fathers day. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love the time we spend with our family, especially as time is passing by so quickly. It's nice to do things with Jack, he'll be grown before we know it.
DeleteI hope someday you can bring Jack to my part of the Oregon coast so he can visit all the cows!
ReplyDeleteHe would love that, he's animal mad. We took him to a farm and he was fascinated by the cows.
DeleteHappy Birthday to Jack. How lovely to spend family time together for Jack's birthday and Fathers day.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your holiday, I wish you safe and happy travels.
All the best Jan
Thank you. We're so lucky to have our family living close by so that we can share these special times together.
DeleteHappy birthday to Jack. He's a proper little boy now, not a baby any longer. How lovely to have a beautiful safe beach nearby - a perfect playground for a little one.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, Jack has grown from a baby to a little boy so fast, time just flies. We're about an hour and a half away from Sandsend, it's not our nearest seaside but it's a lovely unspoilt village, perfect for a family gettogether.
DeleteWhat a special weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt was perfect, I like nothing better than spending time with family.
DeleteOoh, that brought back memories of my 3 playing in that exact same little beck many years ago when they were little! I love Sandsend! I bet Jack really enjoyed his day playing. A lovely day no doubt. Enjoy your holiday.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Children seem to love Sandsend because of the beck, it's a little calmer for little ones than the sea is. Jack had a whale of a time.
DeleteJack is adorable.
ReplyDeleteWe love him to bits.
DeleteLovely to read about Jack’s birthday and Father’s Day at the seaside.
ReplyDeleteHe sounds such a joy at this age.
Sandsend looks beautiful, I’m glad you all had time together.
Have a great holiday.
Thank you. It was such a lovely weekend, there's nothing better than spending time with family. Jack's at such a lovely age, he's so loving but funny too, he's the light of our lives.
DeleteI loved my own children's birthdays and those of my grandchildren's, such fun days Loved Jack's name in pebbles!
ReplyDeleteJack's birthday was a lovely relaxed day. Parties are nice but they take a lot of organising, it was nice to just pop in and spend some time there, and Jack was happy to open and play with his gifts.
DeleteLittle Jack is a sweetheart and I do like the idea of an open house, a more relaxed way to celebrate.

Eleanor and Jacob threw a big party for Jack when he was one, this year is was much more relaxed and it was just as lovely to celebrate this way.
DeleteSounds and looks like you all had a wonderful time. Great picture of the fog/mist. I always think it feels so quiet and a bit eerie. It's great Jack loves books that will serve him well.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
The sea fret makes the beach seem very eerie, it's quite an unusual phenomenon. Neither of my children are avid readers, it makes me sad when I love books so much myself, so I'm trying to nurture Jack's interest. So far so good.
DeleteHappy Birthday Jack, a darling little boy for sure.
ReplyDeleteHe's the apple of our eye.
DeleteArh Happy Birthday Jack, such a happy boy. Those two years have gone by so fast. Lovely photos Jo. I hope you enjoyed your holiday too x
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem two minutes since Jack was born, the time flies by. We had a wonderful holiday, thank you.
DeleteWonderful photos! I don't think I've seen coastal fog before. I hope you're having a great holiday!
ReplyDeleteThe fog can come down so think that you can hardly see anything in front of you. We had a lovely holiday, thank you.
