At long last I've finished the Shapely Boyfriend Cardigan by Stefanie Japel. I started this right at the end of October last year and being knit in aran weight yarn, it shouldn't have taken long in theory but it's been picked up and put down, picked back up and put back down again, but finally it's off the needles.
It hasn't been blocked yet, I'll probably just give it a bit of a steam blocking, and it's quite hard to get a good photo of it, but you can get an idea of what it's like. I'm really quite pleased with it.
It was working up rather small when I first started it so I pulled it back and started again, knitting a bigger size, and it has now come out on the large size, but I don't mind that, I like oversized sweaters, especially cardigans so that I'm able to layer up. I've also knit it a little longer than suggested.
I used Drops Nepal, a 65% wool 35% alpaca blend, in the Camel Mix colourway. It's a good budget priced yarn, especially as Wool Warehouse often have sales on Drops yarn so you can buy it even cheaper.
I'm sure I'll be very thankful for it when winter comes round, it's lovely and warm and will be perfect to snuggle up in.
Nice finish, I have some aran yarn, which I want to knit up for this winter.
ReplyDeleteAran is a nice weight, it's thick enough without being too chunky.
DeleteYour cardigan came out great Jo, i'm sure you will get plenty of wear out of it in the cooler weather. I bet it feels good to have finished a wearable garment. I much prefer clothes that are on the looser side, I'm not a fan of this trend for close fitting jumpers and tops. Do you have plans for another piece for yourself?
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad to have it finished, I don't like having projects hanging around for too long. I don't have any plans for any more garments at the moment, I'm trying to get everything finished up first and then I'll be able to plan some new projects.
DeleteIt looks really warm and cosy Jo and I'm sure you'll get the benefit when the colder weather returns again. I love Drops wool its so nice to knit with and as you say it is a good price which is always a bonus.

It's lovely and warm, I shall definitely be glad of it come winter. Drops is such a good price, you can't go wrong with it.
DeleteIt looks great, well done.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased with how it's turned out.
DeleteYAY! It's so good when a project is finally finished. Wool and alpaca will be so lovely and warm when winter comes. I looked up this yarn and it's not a bad price; wool and alpaca yarns are usually expensive. best, Jane x
ReplyDeleteDrops yarn is a really good price, especially when you can get it in the sale too. I've got some of this yarn left over so I shall be looking for something else to knit with it.
DeleteThe perfect Winter warmer, looks lovely and snug.
ReplyDeleteIt feels really cosy, it will be perfect for winter.
DeleteLovely work again!
ReplyDeleteAnd with quite a cute name! ,-)
✨💛✨
I'm always intrigued by the names the designers come up with.
DeleteIt looks really nice!
ReplyDeleteI'm really pleased with it, it will be perfect for when the cooler weather comes round.
DeleteIt's gorgeous. I love anything that looks snuggly and cosy and I'm sure it will keep you nice and warm this winter. X
ReplyDeleteI think it will, it's definitely very warm, which is just what I wanted when I decided to knit a cardigan.
DeleteWell done & it's lovely. Your tension is amazing & so neat. The armhole shaping is intriguing & quite unusual, not one I've particularly seen before. I'm sure it will be well used in winter. Take care & huggles.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a good knit for someone who doesn't like sewing up, like me, as it's knit it one piece. I'm glad I've got it finished well in time for winter.
DeleteThat's a gorgeous cardigan! I've just started on 'Georgetown' by Hannah Fetig, using almost exactly the same gray. I knit a swatch and liked the fabric it produced, but I didn't hit gauge. Instead of going down a needle size, I decided to stick with it and go down by one size on the chart instead. We'll have to see how that goes :)
ReplyDeleteGeorgetown is a lovely design, I wouldn't mind having that in my wardrobe myself. I hate messing around trying to get gauge but I think wool is quite forgiving, you can always do an aggressive block if it turns out a bit on the snug side.
DeleteThat looks nice and warm and cozy.
ReplyDeleteIt will be lovely to wear during the colder months, it will certainly keep me warm.
DeleteWonderful, it's not easy to knit a one-coloured jumper unless it's for a baby! I'll have to have a look at the Drops wool if it's not too expensive.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I did have to keep putting this project to one side every so often, it can get a bit monotonous knitting a large garment in one colour, especially when it's just stocking stitch. Drops is a great budget yarn, it knits up well enough and seems to wear well too.
DeleteIt's gorgeous - definitely my sort of cardi! Lovely colour, perfect for the chilly autumn/winter nights.
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy with the colour, I think it will go with lots of things.
DeleteWhat a good colour that is, it should go with a good range of colours. Perfect for cooler Autumn days and nights.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I usually tend to go for neutral colours so that they go with a range of things, I think you get more wear out of things that way.
DeleteGlad you finally finished it Jo, it does look good, that will certainly keep you warm once the chill creeps in.xxx
ReplyDeleteIt feels good to have it off the needles, finally, and I agree, it will be lovely to wear once the weather turns cooler.
DeleteI like it Jo, it does look nice and warm. Well done on a finish, I really need to crack on with my WIP's. I love it when I get a finish, sadly that's not often. Some focus would help lol. Cx
ReplyDeleteI've been finding it hard to concentrate on most things since my mum died at the end of March so it's been a bit of a challenge getting this finished. I'm looking forward to wearing it now, though I'd rather have a proper summer first.
DeleteA lovely and useful winter item, its fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I'll be thankful of this garment when winter arrives, it should go with so many things too.
DeleteIt's finished! Well done, your patience has paid off. The winter will be all the warmer for it. I love a big cardy to snuggle in.

I think I'll be glad of the extra room so that I can layer up beneath it. It's very warm so it's one for the very cold days.
DeleteLove the sweater Jo, perfect pattern and perfect color yarn.
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit monotonous to knit, being plain pattern and plain colour, but it will go with so many things and I'll get so much wear out of it.
