It was the AGM last week at the cricket club which Mick plays for. As well as club business, they use this evening to present prizes and trophies. Mick was thrilled to win the trophy for best bowler, the first trophy he's won with this team. Bearing in mind that he's fifty next year and there are some much younger players in the team, I think he's done very well.
I wrote my Cricket Star post about Daniel winning a trophy for being the best bowler in the under 15 team not long after I started writing this blog. Mick had only just started playing cricket again that year after a very long break. I thought it would be a summer passtime for him but no, it now takes up time in winter too as he's started playing indoor cricket.
Daniel was hoping to play cricket at university but it hasn't worked out very well for him. He got a few games in his first year but since then, his lab sessions have always coincided with training so he's ended up missing out. He does come home occasionally and play for his old team, something which Mick's really pleased about, he feels very proud playing alongside his son.
Well done to Mick, he must be chuffed! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, he was very pleased.
DeleteCongratulations to MIck.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteAw - that's lovely. You must be really proud. Jx
ReplyDeleteI am. Don't tell him though, I'm usually having a go at him because he's missing every Saturday during the summer months.
DeleteWell done Mick. Shame that Daniels playing has been curtailed. I hope that they both have a good season next year. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame. Daniel finishes his degree next year so he may get some extra time to play, depending on where he ends up living.
DeleteWell done Mick! It is all cricket! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteWell done Mick! I grew up with cricket as my Dad played (contrary to what a lot of people think, cricket IS played in Scotland). We used to have "catching practice" every evening after dinner in the summer, and I frequently say I could still do better than some of the current England test players when it comes to catching!!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I know what you mean. Mick played a lot of cricket with Daniel and Eleanor in the garden when they were young, even though he wasn't playing for a team at the time.
DeleteCongratulations Mick. I love cricket as Jo knows already, having been taken to the cricket at 4 months old as my mother kept score for my Dad's team and it has always been a 'huge' part of our family time. I still follow our summer season, which is of course on here in Oz now. Over Xmas I'll probably play backyard cricket with my grandchildren in Canberra. Lots of fun. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that even though I've got a husband and a son who play cricket, I've never watched a whole game. I just find it so dull, though I should really make more of an effort.
DeleteCongratulations to Mick! :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThat's just brilliant ... Well done to Mick.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed the flash back to Daniel too.
All the best Jan
Thank you. It doesn't seem two minutes since Daniel won that trophy, he looks so young in the photo.
DeleteThat's super, you must be very proud of him, show the younger set how it's done.
ReplyDeleteI am. It just goes to show that you're not necessarily past it just because you're a certain age.
DeleteSo glad for the good father-son time, and I loved seeing your market photos in your last post, Jo, including the reindeer!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMick watched many cricket matches which Daniel played in when he was a youngster so it's lovely that they get to play together sometimes these days.
DeleteCongratulations! Christmas came early. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. It certainly did for Mick.
DeleteYay for Mick. Congrats to him! I have earned one trophy my entire life...it says #1 speller and it's for winning the spelling bee in sixth grade. I got to go to the local radio station, where I didn't even make it to the finals!
ReplyDeleteThank you. At least you've got a trophy, I haven't got any at all and my spelling seems to get worse as the years go by.
DeleteCongratulations to Mick - how chuffed he must have felt.
ReplyDeleteLisa x
Thank you. He said he strolled up to collect the trophy all calm and cool but really he wanted to whoop for joy, ha ha.
DeleteHow lovely for them to share their love of cricket, and well done Mick xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, it's nice that they share an interest in common, and especially that they get to play together too.
DeleteFeliz Natal!!! Que a manjedoura do seu coração esteja pronta para receber o Menino Jesus que irá nascer!!!
ReplyDeleteUm ano novo repleto das bençãos de Deus!!!
Doce abraço com carinho, Marie!
Thank you. A very merry Christmas to you too.
DeleteWhat a wonderful award to receive, all the better as it was a surprise!
ReplyDeleteIt was a total surprise, he wasn't expecting anything at all.
