A Sunday Morning Stroll

I'm not a lover of autumn. I hate the cooler days, especially those which are dark and damp like today. I don't like the shorter daylight hours and I really don't like the fact that it lets us know that winter is on it's way. If we had more days like we had on Sunday though, I could learn to love autumn.

It was a bright, crisp, sunny Sunday, so we decided to leave Daniel and Eleanor in bed and head off to Temple Newsam before breakfast. Lots of people had the same idea as we did, there were plenty of families and dog walkers there too.

The blue sky cheered me up no end. Such a difference to the drizzly days we often get at this time of year.

It was a slow walk as Archie has had a couple of visits to the vets recently. He's had a bit of a limp for quite a few weeks and has been given anti inflammatory tablets and told to rest, not easy when you're a dog. He's only had very short walks during this period, so we didn't want to over do things. The limp is still there, but doesn't seem quite so bad at the moment so we'll just have to wait and see how things go.

We decided to have a wander to a different area than that where we usually go when we're at Temple Newsam.

There were lots of families in Pegasus Wood looking for conkers, but I think they'll have been disappointed, all the ones we came across were still very immature. They must be late this year.

After our amble, we headed home for breakfast. Mick always makes a cooked breakfast for us all on a Sunday. I had bacon, egg, sausage, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, fried bread, toast, and very unusual for me, a cup of tea. It's very rare that I have a hot drink.

As you can tell, I'm still not on the straight and narrow concerning my healthy eating challenge. I think it's going to get even harder now that winter is on it's way, all I want to eat at this time of year is comfort food.

  1. There's nothing better than a hearty English breakfast especially after a walk in the countryside - not that it happens here often! Hope Archie is better soon. Charlie has also had a trip to the vets - he's got a nasty rash on his tummy! Being so low to the ground he picks up all sorts of bacteria whilst George with his longer legs is as healthy as can be. Trying to get Charlie to take his tablets though is a nightmare! He eats everything from his bowl but locates the tablet and leaves it behind!

    1. Poor Charlie. Archie doesn't like taking tablets either. I wrap his tablets in some chicken or push it in to a cube of cheese. He's so greedy that he doesn't chew, just swallows it down.

  2. I've heard that the calorific value of a cooked breakfast can be smaller than many cereals! Don't know if it's been proved or not..... Sorry to hear that Archie's been limping. Hope that he's making steady progress back to full bounce. Tom is just sulking because the weather is too windy for a cat with long fur! Jx

    1. I'm sure that my cooked breakfast was very fattening. It was absolutely delicious, and they say that things which taste good really aren't good for you, so I'm sure it will have had a huge calorific value. Poor Tom. Archie has long ears which nearly make him take off in the wind, so he doesn't like the bad weather either.

  3. I like this time of year, especially when the weather is like that.
I hope that Archie recovers soon.
The downside to winter sofa flying with a good book and cups of tea will be the number of biscuits that I eat. Flighty xx

    1. I would like this time of year more if the weather was like that more often, but it's so often, dark, damp and drizzly. These days indoors certainly make me eat more than I should.

  4. Jo we have so so so much in common! I've only been recently blogging and discovering new blogs and I like meeting new people like you! I'm a comfort eater too and I'm about to drive myself mad with the whole thing!! If I only did comfort eating with healthy foods I'd be ok, but it's the junk foods that get me! I hope your puppy is feeling better & I look forward to getting to know you better xx

    1. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. I think the weather has a lot to do with unhealthy eating. I start to raid the cupboards when I'm stuck indoors, which I know isn't good but I can't help it. I need more willpower.

    1. I could eat a cooked breakfast everyday, it's unfortunate that it isn't healthy. There's always something new to see at Temple Newsam, the colours in autumn are gorgeous.
