Blowing Away The Cobwebs

The Christmas celebrations seem to have gone on for a long time this year with Daniel and Jasmine arriving home the week before the big day and Eleanor breaking up from work early too. A lot of time has been spent indoors, even though the weather has been quite mild. Daniel and Jasmine have now gone home and Eleanor is back at work, but Mick's still at home until Monday so we decided to drive over to the East Coast yesterday for a walk on the beach.

Our destination was Scarborough and though it was mild at home, it was blowing a gale there. I hadn't thought I'd need my hat, scarf or gloves but my fingers were nearly dropping off, it was so cold.

The weather didn't deter Archie though, he had a lovely time playing with the numerous dogs he came across.

He even had a bit of a paddle in the sea.

Every bit of seaweed he came across had to be sprinkled though!

We spent a good amount of time on the beach, letting Archie have a good run around, before taking a wander along the front.

Scarborough was much busier than we'd expected. The children are still on school holidays until Monday so I expect that's why. Most of the shops, eateries and amusement arcades were open.

There were so many dogs around too. I think there must be many people like us who'd decided to give their furry friends a run on the beach.

We'd intended to make more of a day of it but it was just too cold to be much fun so we bought Archie a tray of fish sticks and made our way home early, arriving home just after 3pm.

I hope no one minds but after nearly ten years of doing so, I've made the decision to stop answering comments on the blog. I usually answer nearly every comment I receive but blogging is starting to take up more time than I want it to so something has to give. I do appreciate every single comment I receive and I do read each and every one of them, but it's either answer comments, which often don't require an answer, or use the time to read and comment on other people's posts, which I love doing. I always try to visit the blogs of people who comment here and leave a comment back. I know that many people don't even come back to read the replies I leave so I feel that answering comments is just a waste of time in many instances. Of course, I'll still reply to any questions which are left. I hope my decision doesn't offend anyone.

  1. I love to walk on the beach at this time of year and it looks like Archie does too. These indulgent days after Christmas have left me reluctant to return to work. X

  2. Happy New Year! What a lovely idea to get out and blow away the cobwebs. I'm waiting for the kids to go back to school and then I'm going for a seaside walk, I do feel like I've been inside for ages.
Your decision about comments makes absolute sense. I doubt anyone will be offended, or I certainly hope they won't be! It's your blog and your time to spend how you choose.
    xx

  3. I made the decision ages ago that if I replied to one comment on a post I would reply to all the comments on that post but otherwise I wouldn't reply to comments. Like you I read them all and often nip over to the commenter's blog if it isn't already on my reading list.

  4. Even if it was chilly that was a nice outing and puppy enjoyed himself. No one should be offended that you have decided to not respond to comments on your blog. It's your decision and understandable. Have a good weekend !

  5. It sounds like a good few hours out even though it was so cold. I like Scarborough, though haven't been there for a few years - time to go back soon I think. I know what you mean about answering blog comments, it can take up a fair amount of time - maybe instead of answering each comment individually you could write just one general reply thanking everyone for commenting?

  6. We visited Scarborough in September '17 when we were last holidaying over that way. It was cold and windy then too LOL Best, Jane x

  7. A very sensible decision regarding the comments. What a lovely winter walk! I’ve only been to Scarborough once and I had to find my woolly hat and that was in August! :)

  8. Shame that it was so chilly, but good to see that Archie enjoyed himself.
I certainly don't mind about not answering comments. I answer them on mine but don't get anywhere near as many as you do, if I did I think that I would stop as well. xx

  9. -clapping hands- You have come over to my way of blogging!!!!!! -lots of smiles-

I never could understand, why people replied, to every comment, on _their_ own blog. My way, is what you are now going to do. Go read/comment on the blogs, of the Dear People, who Comment on our blogs.

Time! Time! Time! We just do not have enough of it, even retired, to not be careful with our use of time.

    Gentle hugs...

  11. Fresh air and a good run around, just the ticket at this time of year! I haven't been to Scarborough, it looks lovely. Don't worry about the comments on my account. x

  12. I love the English sea side even in the Winter, our nearest is Weston Super-mare, almost 2 hours away, although we haven't been there for a while. I always pop back and read your replies if I can, but I can totally understand why you would stop doing it, time is precious and we need to use it wisely.

  13. I can just imagine Archie having a nice time on the beach at Scarborough as there's a great sandy stretch. The recent days have been quite bright, but cold. It's good to get out even for a few hours. No problem re not answering comments. I do return to look at what is said as I know most blog friends' formats. Using your time to do other things is important Jo. All the best for the new year.

  15. Archie is so cute! I enjoyed your pictures and it is interesting how different your beach and coastline is to ours here on the coast of Maine. It must have been busy at your house to have everyone at home and happy and a let down when they all leave. Have a great 2020!💖

  16. Lovely, lovely to see Archie having such a great time, bet he was tired afterwards :-) 🐶

You've made me think about the 'comment' thing - I try to always reply, but you are right about the time it takes up, I feel guilty I have not replied to the comments left on my last post, {sigh}. You must do whatever is right for you, and for your blog, and for your life as it is right now. If anyone doesn't like it, they can toddle off somewhere else . . .

  17. Scarborough ... how I love you, so of course I loved this post. Archie looks so sweet paddling in the waves.
I try to pop back and read your replies as I know you have taken time to comment to me, but time is precious so a good choice to use it wisely elsewhere. I answer comments that come in email if they warrant a reply, if not I don't.
    love and blessings x

  18. Ahhhh, Archie looks like he is having a ball! It did sound cold there, but what a lovely outing. Do whatever you have to do Jo, answering comments can be time consuming, I have been thinking along the same lines as I'm always behind answering comments. Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2020.xxx
