Eleanor's Christmas Socks

I'm a big fan of West Yorkshire Spinners yarn so when I saw their Candy Cane colourway last Christmas I couldn't resist. I knit myself my Aunt Petunia's Christmas Socks in this colourway but as I'd knit the cuffs, heels and toes in a coordinating colour, I had lots of yarn left over. I recently pulled it out of my stash and decided that I'd use this yarn to knit up a pair of Christmas socks for Eleanor to wear this year over the festive period.

I knit a plain pair of socks, no pattern this time, but once again, used the Cayenne Pepper colourway for the cuffs, heels and toes. Yarn goes so much further when you introduce a second, complimentary, colourway.

They're a bit shorter in the leg than I usually knit but Eleanor doesn't like her socks quite as long as I do so I think she'll like them. She's got small feet, she's a UK size 4 so her socks don't take up too much yarn. They're quicker to knit than socks for other people too, she's got the smallest feet in our family, though the men in the family aren't too bad, they've mostly got size 8 or 9 feet.

I've seen the Christmas colourway which West Yorkshire Spinners have released for 2018, I'm not sure I can resist.

  2. Lovely colourways, very festive, I´m sure Eleanor will be delighted with them. My attempt at socks has rather taken a back burner, can´t think why lol xcx

    1. Hmmm, I wonder why that is. You'll be able to pick your socks back up again when you're needles aren't quite so busy.

    1. The inspiration for the yarn was candy canes. They're a proper Christmassy colour.

  10. They are lovely - I'm sure Eleanor will thoroughly enjoy them over the holidays. I'm almost finished knitting my daughter her knitted gift, a pair of socks as well...in this case, it's a sparkly yarn that she picked out a few months ago but I'm sure that she's long forgotten about it so it will be a nice surprise for her when she sees it all knit up. I have yet to try changing up the colours for the cuff, toes and heels but it's something that I'm excited to try....perhaps on the next pair.

    1. That'll be a nice surprise for your daughter, especially in sparkly yarn. I like the effect of coordinating yarn for cuffs, heels and toes, it's good for stripey colourways as it doesn't effect the sequence around the heel, but there are a lot more ends to sew in afterwards.

I caved in and bought this years Christmas wool :-) I haven't knitted co-ordinating toes, cuffs and heels before so will be a learning curve. I was always concerned about weaving the ends in and it not being uncomfortable?

    1. I'm hoping they still have this year's colourway available when I come to buy it. I don't find the woven in ends of socks with coordinating cuffs, heels and toes uncomfortable, it's just a bit of a pain having more ends to weave in at the end.
