Eleanor came home from university yesterday for the weekend so that she can go and visit Lucinda and the baby, she's got a few gifts to take with her.
I knit these cute little socks for the new arrival, I'm not sure how long they'll fit her though as babies tend to grow so fast. I used the Knox pattern by Galt House of Yarn. They're knit in one piece, exactly like a larger pair of socks are knit with a heel flap and gusset, just fewer stitches. They only took 13 grams of yarn, they're perfect for using up oddments so I used some of the Fondant Fibre yarn in the Amazon Orchid colourway which I had leftover from my V For Valentine socks.
Lucinda sent Eleanor a photo of the baby all dressed up and waiting to leave hospital. She was wearing the All-In-One Baby Top and hat which I knit for her, it's nice to know that the little knitted gifts that I've made are being used.
Congratulations to Lucinda! Those little socks are adorable! I looked at your post of the little top and hat too. I used to joke to my children that I knitted everything but their nappies! I even knit fine woollen vests for the winter from an old liberty bodice pattern that Mum used to knit vests for me and my brother. I still have bits of her old patterns. Best, Jane :)
ReplyDeleteI used to knit before I had children but stopped and then didn't start again until I was in my forties so I never knit anything when my kids were babies. They did have knitted garments though, my mother in law knitted for them, though most of the things unravelled whilst they were being worn.

ReplyDeleteThey're so tiny. They're knit on 32 stitches, so about half the amount usually cast on for adult size socks but they're much smaller than half the size.

I know things which actually fit when a baby is first born don't last long, but you're right, it's nice to have nice fitting things when they're tiny. Daniel was only 6lb 6oz when he was born so we had to buy tiny clothes for him as 0-3 months swamped him, they didn't last long but I liked having him in things which weren't too big.

ReplyDeleteI'm always pleased when a gift I've made gets used. I know that not everyone appreciates hand knit garments but Lucinda was really pleased with the things I knit for the baby.

ReplyDeleteI agree. I learnt to knit as a very young child but I put my needles down in my late teens and didn't pick them up again until I was in my forties. I'm so glad I did.

I think it's lovely that she arrived on her mummy's birthday, very special. I was born on my nana's birthday and I loved that we shared that day.
