Eleanor's friend, Lucinda, had her baby last weekend, a little girl who was born on her mummy's birthday, what a perfect gift.
Eleanor came home from university yesterday for the weekend so that she can go and visit Lucinda and the baby, she's got a few gifts to take with her.
I knit these cute little socks for the new arrival, I'm not sure how long they'll fit her though as babies tend to grow so fast. I used the Knox pattern by Galt House of Yarn. They're knit in one piece, exactly like a larger pair of socks are knit with a heel flap and gusset, just fewer stitches. They only took 13 grams of yarn, they're perfect for using up oddments so I used some of the Fondant Fibre yarn in the Amazon Orchid colourway which I had leftover from my V For Valentine socks.
Lucinda sent Eleanor a photo of the baby all dressed up and waiting to leave hospital. She was wearing the All-In-One Baby Top and hat which I knit for her, it's nice to know that the little knitted gifts that I've made are being used.
Congratulations to Lucinda! Those little socks are adorable! I looked at your post of the little top and hat too. I used to joke to my children that I knitted everything but their nappies! I even knit fine woollen vests for the winter from an old liberty bodice pattern that Mum used to knit vests for me and my brother. I still have bits of her old patterns. Best, Jane :)
ReplyDeleteI used to knit before I had children but stopped and then didn't start again until I was in my forties so I never knit anything when my kids were babies. They did have knitted garments though, my mother in law knitted for them, though most of the things unravelled whilst they were being worn.
DeleteHow cute do they look
ReplyDeleteThey're so tiny. They're knit on 32 stitches, so about half the amount usually cast on for adult size socks but they're much smaller than half the size.
DeleteThey look lovely Jo, so sweet x
ReplyDeleteI just hope they fit as they're tiny and the baby isn't exactly small at 8lb 2oz.
DeleteThose little socks are so precious. Huge congratulations to Lucinda. X
ReplyDeleteIt was nice knitting something so dinky.
DeleteOh how could a new Mama not use that precious all-in-one-top in yellow, which you knitted??? It is the most precious thing.
ReplyDeleteAnd the booties/socks will be lovely, while they fit. :-) Even if it is only a short time. Nice to have tiny things, at the beginning. Yes it is nice. :-)
✨🌲✨
I know things which actually fit when a baby is first born don't last long, but you're right, it's nice to have nice fitting things when they're tiny. Daniel was only 6lb 6oz when he was born so we had to buy tiny clothes for him as 0-3 months swamped him, they didn't last long but I liked having him in things which weren't too big.
DeleteHow lovely, babies are just adorable. x
ReplyDeleteThey are. Eleanor enjoyed her cuddles with the new baby yesterday.
DeleteThey are gorgeous, what a lovely gift.
ReplyDeleteThey were just a little something for the baby now that she's here. I knit a few things for her beforehand.
DeleteWishing the little one a very happy life.
ReplyDeleteAdorable and cute little socks.
It's such a special time when a new baby comes into the world.
DeleteSo sweet! It certainly is nice when you see your knits being worn & appreciated...warms the heart :)
ReplyDeleteLucinda was really appreciative of all the little knits I gifted her so it's lovely to know they're being well used.
DeleteI am so happy your gifts are lovingly used, that makes a knitter's heart happy!
ReplyDeleteI'm always pleased when a gift I've made gets used. I know that not everyone appreciates hand knit garments but Lucinda was really pleased with the things I knit for the baby.
DeleteCongratulations to the new mother :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she is using your knitted gifts, it's a great compliment when knitted things are used.
It is. It's lovely seeing the photos which Lucinda's sent to Eleanor of her wearing her little jackets.
DeleteThose baby socks are adorable!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey're so cute and were so easy to knit, a nice, straightforward pattern.
DeleteOoh, those socks are SO sweet! A woman told me last week that she loves to see children wearing handknits because it means that they are loved. I really like that idea. x
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a lovely idea. I do wish I hadn't put my needles away when my two were babies, I regret not knitting for them now.
DeleteSuch cutie socks and how lovely to hear that baby wore your outfit to go home in. Congrats to Lucinda xcx
ReplyDeleteI think these are the cutest socks I've ever knit. They certainly took less time than I usually spend on a pair of socks.
DeleteAwwwww, fancy mother and child sharing a birthday!xxx
ReplyDeleteIt was Lucinda's 21st birthday, a very special gift.
DeleteLovely news, many congratulations to Lucinda.
ReplyDeleteI love those socks and how lovely that baby wore the outfit you knitted to go home in - wonderful.
All the best Jan
I do enjoy knitting baby garments and it makes it so worthwhile when you know they're being well used.
DeleteOh how I wish I could knit, there is something heart warming in knitting.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I learnt to knit as a very young child but I put my needles down in my late teens and didn't pick them up again until I was in my forties. I'm so glad I did.
DeleteCongratulations to Lucinda! A double birthday celebration!
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased the little one is getting to wear her gorgeous hand made clothes.

I think it's lovely that she arrived on her mummy's birthday, very special. I was born on my nana's birthday and I loved that we shared that day.
DeleteMany thanks for posting this Jo, I am now knitting a pair of Knox socks for my friend who has recently had a baby with some leftover Craft House Magic yarn. Having to use dpns but they are coming up so cute.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased you're enjoying knitting them. They're the perfect little gift.
