Spooky Halloween

It's Halloween so I thought I'd take you on a little adventure to Lotherton Hall.

The Spooky Scarecrow Trail provides clues which lead you around the house and estate taking in the super spooky scarecrows.

We visited the Spooky Scarecrow Trail on Sunday and though we didn't follow any clues or go in the house we still managed to see lots of spooky scarecrows.

You may remember the Spooky Goings On from last year but the Spooky Scarecrow Trail is even bigger this year and though some of the scarecrows were the same, there's lots of new ones too.

It was very busy on Sunday with lots of families visiting this super event.

The summerhouse and some of the outbuildings have been utilised this year to stage spooky scenes.

Even the tops of the buildings have been adorned with scary characters.

You must remember to look up too otherwise you'll miss what's creeping above your head.

Be careful where you're walking though, you don't want to put your foot where you shouldn't.

You wouldn't usually expect to find spooky things dangling from the trees but anything goes here.

There's even things in the pond which shouldn't be there.

A dog was seen haunting the pet cemetery.

Even the gardeners here are scary.

Archie didn't take up the offer. Nora Bone indeed!

We were lucky to get out alive.

There were lanterns throughout the grounds and woods, and lighting could be seen by the displays which will illuminate them once it gets dark, which is brilliant because this year Lotherton have extended their opening times into the evening to make it even spookier with a scary walk through the haunted woods. The Spooky Scarecrow Trail is on until the 4th of November and admission is free with normal admission to the estate.

Happy Halloween.

  2. Oh that's looks so much fun! There's a lot of work gone into making that spooky event, Oliver loves Halloween, Jenny took him on a scary walk in the woods last weekend and Joanne took him on a scary boat trip through the caves on Sunday, he would just love this :-) I'm going to stitching group tonight so will miss any trick or treaters, although last year we didn't have many and I ended up eating all the sweets lol

    1. The boat trip sounds like lots of fun. I think Lotherton put on a great event for families, some of the kids were dressed up on Sunday though there were one or two who were taking more interest in Archie than they were the exhibits.

  4. What a fabulous idea for families young and old. We never had anything like this when I was growing up and not really when my children were growing up. It obviously takes a lot of work too.

    1. There was nothing like this when I was growing up either, we didn't even carve pumpkins or go trick or treating. Things have certainly changed over the last few years, it's big business now.

  5. Yup...spooky! I think I'm a bit strange but I prefer a cute Halloween to a spooky one....think Casper the friendly ghost vs. night of the living dead ;)

    1. I don't mind a bit of both. I'd quite like to visit Lotherton in the dark, I think it would be even spookier then, especially walking through the woods.

  6. Looks great fun, families must love seeing the children find all the scary stuff. We are ignoring Halloween tonight, we live in the back of our house and will ensure the lights are all turned off. On our local Facebook page they have suggested if the house outside light is off then the owner does not wish to be bothered.

    1. I can't remember the last time we had any trick or treaters, they tend to only visit houses which are decorated around here, and ours isn't. I still make sure I have some chocolate bars in though just in case, I usually end up eating them myself.

    1. We made more of Halloween when the kids were young but we don't bother now that there's just the two of us. I do think this event at Lotherton is fun though.

    1. Mischief Night was the thing we looked forward to most as kids, probably because Halloween wasn't celebrated. Bonfire Night was always on the 5th of November no matter what day it fell but these days the bonfires begin a week before the actual day and can go on up to two weeks after so I think Mischief Night has got lost along the way.

  12. I'm not a fan of Halloween as it wasn't around when I was a child, but someone has put a lot of effort & thought into that Spooky Trail. I'm sure it would be quite frightening for some of the young ones. Thanks for sharing & take care.

    1. Halloween wasn't celebrated when I was a child either but I think it's just a bit of fun for the kids, life can be so serious these days so it's nice that they get to enjoy themselves, especially at organised events such as this. There were children of all ages there on Sunday and I didn't see any that were frightened, many were dressed up themselves and were having a great time.

    1. There's some great events for families at Lotherton, well worth checking out for those in the area. Yes, Nellie's Tree won the UK tree of the year, it now goes forward to represent the UK in the European tree of the year contest.

I imagine it looks rather spooky after dark, all those things hanging in the trees. The hanging Mummy would give me chills!

  19. I bet this is really creepy at dusk! I wouldn't want to walk around then. That mummy hanging upside down is pretty scary!
Love the Nora Bone sign. Looks like they've really pulled out the stops for this event which is great for visitors.
