Eleanor's asked me to knit a couple of things for her friend who is expecting her first baby and when I was looking for patterns on Ravelry, it was the Seamless part of the name which grabbed my attention. I hate sewing things up so I try to knit everything I can in one piece, it's just so much easier for me.
I used Stylecraft Wondersoft Baby Double Knitting in the Humpty Dumpty colourway, a yarn which Eleanor chose when we were on holiday in Cornwall. I wasn't sure about the colours or the patterning in the yarn but I think it's knit up rather nice.
I picked up the buttons on a recent visit to York. Duttons For Buttons have just about every colour and shape you could ever want. I wasn't sure which colour to go for but in the end I went with Aqua. I'm pleased with my choice.
Babies tend to grow rather quickly but as this is a size 0-6 months it should last a little while before she outgrows it. I'm enjoying knitting some baby garments, they're an easy knit and are really cute when they're finished.
Very pretty. What an interesting yarn, I bet you couldn't put it down.
ReplyDeleteI like how the yarn has patterned but I had to made a couple of cut and joins in the sleeves to get the pattern to match. That's the only problem with long patterns in yarn.
DeleteThe colours are beautiful, and perfect for the colder weather through the winter months. I have wool for a couple of jumpers for Will, I love knitting for small people, they are finished so fast.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about the colour or pattern of the yarn when Eleanor chose it but I really like how it's knit up. The baby is due in November so this is a perfect pattern for a winter baby. I haven't had much reason to knit baby garments for a long time so it's nice to have Eleanor's friend to knit for.

ReplyDeleteI could spend hours in Duttons For Buttons. If you don't find what you're looking for there I don't think you'll find it anywhere. There was a lady in the shop looking for buttons in the shape of a tractor whilst I was there and sure enough, she found them.

ReplyDeleteThere was such a difference in the stitch count between Eleanor's sweater and this, and the thickness of the yarn made a difference too. It was nice to have a quick knit.

DeleteIt's beautiful! I love this yarn colorway, it really jumped out at me in your other post showing it. Something about the green and the tiny bits of pink. I love green and pink together. You did a lovely job with this sweet little sweater.
ReplyDeleteI know Eleanor likes pink and green together as those are the colours she chose when I crocheted her blanket so that's probably why she chose this yarn. I think it's knit up really nice.

ReplyDeleteDuttons For Buttons have shops in Harrogate and Ilkley now too, though I've only ever visited the York branch. It's like a treasure trove of buttons.

I actively look for patterns which don't require any sewing up, I hate it that much. I'm really pleased with this pattern and will probably knit it again at some point. The pain in my toe comes and goes but I'm sure it won't be long until it's feeling better.

It's a lovely weight too. It's going to be a winter baby so it should keep her nice and warm. I'm still hobbling around on my toe but I'm hoping it will start to ease off soon.

Eleanor said that her friend was really pleased with the knitted garments. I don't think many people dress their babies in hand made things as much as they used to.
