I started my 50 Before 50 list on my 48th birthday, you can see the list and read about it in my 50 Before 50 - Part One and 50 Before 50 - Part Two posts. After six months I wrote my 50 Before 50 - Update 1 post, after a year I wrote my 50 Before 50 - Update 2 post and as it's now exactly eighteen months since I started the list, it's time for another update.
I went away on holiday to Norfolk at the beginning of September last year and I managed to cross two things off the list then, the first was number 7, Take a boat ride. We hired a boat on the Norfolk Broads which you can read about in my Messing About On The Water post.
Last Sunday we took part in Bark In The Park which enabled me to cross off number 20 on the list, Take part in a charity walk. Combining a sponsored walk with exercising Archie seemed like a good idea, especially when walking in the lovely surroundings of Temple Newsam.
At the end of September we visited the lights in Blackpool. We took Daniel and Eleanor to see the lights many times when they were young but that's quite a few years ago now. Go to Blackpool to see the illuminations is number 25 on the list and you can read about it in my Blackpool Illuminations post.
I put Visit Scotland on the list at number 35 as I'd only ever had a couple of day trips across the border previously. We finally took a little trip at the end of January and I wrote all about it in my Weekending In Scotland post.
Treat myself to something I really want is number 42 on the list and I decided to buy myself a sewing machine. I'd been wanting to have a go at sewing on a machine for a long time and when an offer came up on a basic model I couldn't resist. A Gift To Me From Me tells you all about it. I must confess that I still haven't had a go on it yet though, I thought Eleanor might help me and give me some pointers when she was home at Christmas but things were so busy that we just didn't get round to it but it will definitely be coming out of its box soon.
Also crossed off the list in Norfolk was Adopt an animal for charity. This was number 43 on the list and you can read all about Gulliver, a beautiful horse I've adopted, in my Redwings post.
A new yarn show popped up this year. As it was being held in Nottingham it was too good a chance to miss, especially as I could pay Eleanor a visit at uni at the same time. You can read about Nottingham Yarn Expo 2017 in my post and also see what I bought.
As Eleanor is at university in Nottingham, I thought it would be fun to explore the city on our visits so Explore Nottingham made it on to the list at number 50. Shopping In Nottingham tells you about one of our visits.
So, as you can see, I've crossed off quite a few things in this quarter but there's still lots of things left to do on the list so I'll be having a big push in this final quarter. It'll be fun to find out just how many of the fifty things I've managed to do.
If you haven't yet entered The Food Of Love giveaway, there's still time. Just leave a comment on The Food Of Love Giveaway post to be in with a chance of winning. A name will be drawn at random at some point next week.
You've been to some lovely places because of your list and explored such pretty parts of the country.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your final quarter and I look forward to seeing what you run up on that sewing machine!
Lisa x
I think the list has encouraged me to get on and do some of the things I've wanted to do for ages, it's certainly been good for that. I'm hoping that Eleanor will help me with the sewing machine when she's home from from uni, it might even inspire her to get her own machine out, she hasn't done anything on it for quite some time.
DeleteYou've done well so far, and clearly been enjoying doing them.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a lot of fun crossing things off on the list, I made sure that I put lots of enjoyable things on it.
DeleteI have bad memories of the Norfolk Broads as in my teens I was in rowing boat that was swamped by a motor boat and I nearly drowned!
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't sound like a very pleasant trip, no wonder you have bad memories of the Norfolk Broads. It's a shame as it's so peaceful watching the world go by and seeing all the wildlife.
DeleteYou are making great strides on your list, well done.
ReplyDeleteI've crossed quite a few things off now but there's still a long way to go, I'm looking forward to getting lots more things ticked off.
DeleteEven if you don't achieve all fifty (and I hope that you do) you're having yourself a fabulous time. X
ReplyDeleteThe list is certainly providing inspiration and encouraging me to do lots of things that I just never seem to get around to. There's still a long way to go to finish it though.
DeleteYou have done really well get through the variety of things on your list. I love that they are so varied. I'm sure you'll manage to cross of many more in these last few months.
ReplyDeleteThere is a variety of things on the list, it's certainly keeping it interesting and I'm still enjoying working my way through it.
DeleteYou've done so much already, I'm surprised that there is still much left on your list :) Not much longer to go before you celebrate that big birthday!
ReplyDeleteI'm on the count down now with just six months to go to the big 5 0. There's actually still more left to do on the list than has been crossed off so I need a big push now for this final quarter.
DeleteYou seem to be having lots of fun with your 50 before 50. I wanted to stay 38 years old forever. Unfortunately this will never be, it's just not possible. I'll be 50 in July. Enjoy your list. Cathy x
ReplyDeleteI think there's a few of us here in blogland who are 50 this year. I certainly don't feel 50, I think 38 would be a nice age to stay, if only.
DeleteYou are doing well so far, but then I realise it's not far away before the big day, so it will be a push. Not to worry as there'll be more time to do lots even after you are 50, especially when M retires one day. I add to my want to-do lists all the time & you know how old I am. Once Spring arrives properly & the weather is better, will be the time for some more goals. Take care & huggles.
ReplyDeleteI've still got lots to cross off before the big day, I'll give it my best. As you say, there's still lots of time to complete the list afterwards, it's just a bit of fun setting myself these entertaining challenges.
DeleteWell done, Jo. Here we are watching Penelope Keith's "English Villages" series on TV. Just saw the Norfolk one. Can see why you put that on your bucket list. Beautiful! P. x
ReplyDeleteThe only times I've been to Norfolk previously were once as a child and a few days on a boat on the Norfolk Broads when Daniel and Eleanor were little. It's a beautiful county and somewhere I'd be very happy to visit again.
DeleteWell done for achieving so much off the list, I find writing a list gives me the extra push sometimes needed. I will be 60 this year put still tell the Grandchildren I am 21 and yes they do believe me.
ReplyDeleteI like to see things getting ticked off a list, I think that's why it helps to write things down. My dad always added years onto his age when I was young and I always believed he was older than he was. He doesn't do that now that he's nearly 85.
DeleteYou are doing really well, it's such a good idea to have a list as it really spurs you on to get visiting. You'll have to think of 60 more things when you get to 50!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about making another list but perhaps I will make a 60 Before 60 one, there's plenty of things I'd still like to do.
DeleteYou're doing really well. I might have to do a "40 before 40"... I think I've enough time to fit it in :D
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed working my way through the list, I may even sent myself a 60 Before 60 once this one is finished.
DeleteA 60 before 60 would be good - you'd have lots of time to get things ticked off the list.
ReplyDeleteOnce that sewing machine is out of its box - my fingers would be itching like made to get it out! - what are you thinking of making. Clothes, quilts, curtains or other crafts? Just being nosy ;)
I'm definitely thinking about a 60 Before 60 list, I could put things which are a little more adventurous on it with having more time in which to complete it. I'm probably just going to use the sewing machine for crafts but having no experience whatsoever, I'm keeping an open mind. It's actually quite exciting to be starting something brand new to me.
DeleteWell done . I want To do the same . Lately, my life doesn’t seem to be own perhaps creating my own list will help me to find the time to enjoy myself a bit more . All work and no play .......
ReplyDeleteMaking a list has certainly helped me to concentrate on some of the things I want to do. I'm thinking about making another long term list now, 60 Before 60.
DeleteHave fun working your way through the remaining items on your list!
ReplyDeleteI don't have long left in which to do it so I need to get cracking.
DeleteYou’ve achieved so much, there can’t be many things left to cross off. It was such a good idea to write the list, a good focus and it sounds like you’ve had so much fun too xx
ReplyDeleteThere's still lots left on the list so I'm going to have fun in this final six months.
DeleteI'm not a list person at all, if I was I suppose I'd be tackling my 70 before 70 this year. Sounds like you are enjoying your list though, keep going.
ReplyDeleteI love lists. I have a Filofax and have lots of list, including my 50 Before 50, in there. I've enjoyed this little challenge and might well create a 60 Before 60 list at some point in the future.
DeleteAlways something lovely to read when I visit you Jo. Our craft group uses those machines - the ladies love them. I'm looking forward to seeing what you 'sew together'
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing to say, thank you. I don't know much about sewing machines, in fact I don't know anything at all, but I got a good deal on it so it was definitely worth buying as a first purchase.
DeleteYou have done well with your list and seem to enjoy everything you've done so far. You can't have too many more things to cross off can you?
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
It's been fun ticking things off. There's still more without ticks on the list than those crossed off.
