Archie's Collar

Thank you to everyone who sent get well wishes for Archie. I wrote about how we were ending 2017 and starting the new year with a poorly doggy in my Here's to 2018 post. Archie was a very poorly doggy indeed, he was out of sorts for a full week, but his cheeky, mischievous nature soon returned and I'm pleased to say that he's now back to normal. He's had a check up at the vet's and been given a clean bill of health where this latest illness is concerned. Unfortunately, his heart murmur has got worse, though thankfully he isn't yet showing any sign of heart failure, so it's been decided to start him on some medication which could, hopefully, delay the onset of heart failure by up to fifteen months. It's so sad that Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are prone to heart problems.

I wanted to show you a beautiful gift that Archie received for Christmas. You may remember reading my #stitchingsanta Reveal 2017 post where I showed all the lovely gifts I received from my swap partner, Lynn, who blogs at Tialys, well, when she realised that I have a pooch she offered to pop one of the lovely collars she makes in the post for him. I was asked which colour I'd prefer and I went for blue as Archie is often mistaken for a girl dog, which does nothing for his self esteem. I thought a blue collar might make him look a little more macho.

I'm absolutely delighted with this collar. It's got a sturdy clasp and a D ring to hang his ID tag from, and it's adjustable too for a perfect fit. It's so well made and very smart too, it makes Archie look like a very handsome boy indeed.

Lynn has an Etsy shop, ouafouaf, or woofwoof in English, where she sells these beautiful collars and a percentage of all profits she makes goes to Twilight, a retirement home for dogs. It's run by a couple who take elderly or disabled dogs who are lost, abandoned or bereaved of their owners, into their own home to live out the rest of their lives with love and comfort.

I know that lots of my readers have dogs, I'd love it if you'd take a look at Lynn's Etsy shop, I'm sure there's a collar there that your furry friend would love to be seen in, and even if you don't have a dog, one of Lynn's collars would make a fabulous gift for the furry companion of a family member or friend. Lynn's very kindly offering a discount on any purchases, if you enter the code JOSFRIEND in the coupon code section at checkout, you will automatically receive a 20% discount.

Thank you, Lynn, for the thoughtful gift. Archie loves his collar and is only too happy to recommend your shop to others.

  1. Thank goodness he's okay now, there's nothing so frightening than having a pet ill. I'd rather it was a human as they can tell you exactly where the pain is. I know when Pricess was ill I was in pieces and I dread any of mine being ill and watch them like a hawk.
Lovely collar by the way, I shall tell my daughter, she is in the process of getting a dog.

    1. I know exactly what you mean about a human being able to tell you what's wrong with them, if only our pets could talk. Our furry friends are one of the family and we feel upset when they're ill just as we would if any other family member were ill. It's such a relief to have him well again, though his heart murmur is such a worry. How exciting that your daughter is getting a dog, I can't wait to hear more about that.

  2. I'm glad to hear Archie is back to his cheeky self. And his new collar is rather fab! We don't have a dog, but one day... so I'll keep Lynn's shop in mind. I'll pop her shop on my fav sellers list.

    1. I'm thrilled to bits with Archie's new collar. He's actually only ever had two collars in his seven years, one when he was a puppy and the one he's been wearing since, so this is a real treat for him.

  3. When I saw the title of the post and the first photograph I must admit I panicked a bit. Thank goodness he is OK.
It's a lovely collar - a gorgeous shade of blue - and Archie looks very handsome in it. One day (when Lily is not so terrified of them) I will get another dog. X

    1. I'm sorry I gave you a bit of a shock, I can see how it could look now. I'm glad the post is much nicer one that it first appeared. It's a shame that Lily's afraid of dogs, they're wonderful companions for children, perhaps it's something she'll grow out of and then she'll be nattering you, like Eleanor nattered the life out of me, to get her a dog.

    2. We did have a dog until Lily was two years old but I think she was fine with her because she was old by then(18) and just pootled around. Lily can't cope with fussy dogs, and most do see little children as something fun to play with! Cats are therefore fine, as are sheep, chickens, cows, squirrels....just not dogs. Hopefully one day. X

    3. Younger dogs do tend to be very fussy, even Archie can't cope with them. He has a friend called Buddy who he sees when we go for a walk, he's a cocker spaniel and much younger than Archie, it's funny to see the look that Archie gives him, as if to say don't bother jumping around me, I'm not going to chase you. I'm sure Lily will be fine around dogs in time, I know a lot of children who are the same.

  4. A very handsome collar indeed! I'm not sure how I missed your post on Charlie - how worried you must have been! And poor Charlie, to have gone through such a rough spot. I'm so glad that he was able to push through it and is now back to his normal self.

  6. So pleased to hear Archie is better now, such a shame he has the murmur, hope the meds keep everything under control. His lovely new collar is very swish, so nice to pooch pamper with something different. Although we don´t have dogs, we have in fact had to purchase small dog collars for two of our furries as the boys are so large lol xcx

    1. The heart murmur is a real worry, though we knew before we got a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that they're prone to problems. There's tablets he can be given once he does start to show symptoms of heart failure which will, hopefully, prolong his life. He looks very handsome in his new collar.

    1. Mitral Valve Disease can advance slowly or quickly, there's just no telling. I'm hoping that the medication they've started him on will help slow things down and that he can live a healthy, happy life for as long as possible. He's such a beautiful little dog, it really is a shame that Cavalier King Charles Spaniels suffer from this horrible thing.

  11. So pleased he's receiving the right medication to help him. My brother had a King Charles female who had about 10 phantom pregnancies bless her.

    1. I'm glad it's been found early enough to give preventative treatment, though I know this will only work for so long. I've heard of dogs having phantom pregnancies before but ten seems an awful lot, poor thing.

The collar is very distinguished looking & lovely shade of blue. One clever lady making those & lucky Archie receiving one. Have a great weekend & take care.

  17. It's good to hear Archie is back to his old self. Leo has heart issues (it's sadly a Maine Coon trait and he's part Maine Coon), but it seems to come and go. He's happy in himself though and that's the main thing. He had his latest check up today and the vet is happy enough with him.

    1. It's sad that certain illnesses are more prevalent in particular breeds. Mitral Valve Disease is twenty times more common in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels than the average breed. I'm glad that Leo's latest check up went well and that the vet is happy with him.
