Made from West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4 ply in the Sherbet Fizz colourway, I used Candyfloss for the contrasting cuffs, heels and toes. I wasn't really feeling it as I was knitting them up. I wasn't sure if I liked the colour of the stripes, how they worked together or how the yarn worked in this pattern, I'm not really sure what it was.
I'm glad I persevered though as I'm really pleased with them now that they're finished and they actually look even better when they're being worn, the stripes stretch out a bit and give a more pleasing effect overall. There's just one thing that I'm not convinced about and that's the toes. I followed the pattern but I much prefer a more wedged toe which is grafted together, whereas this toe is more rounded and the remaining stitches at the end are gathered on yarn which is pulled through them. It gives a bit of a pointy end, but they look okay on. I won't use this toe pattern again though.
The gift pile is growing steadily.
I'm on track for having all my Christmas gifts made in good time this year.
They are lovely, beautiful colours, I really must have a go at knitting socks.
ReplyDeleteOnce you start you'll be hooked, I find them very addictive. They're actually lovely to wear too, they're snuggly and warm for the winter months.

ReplyDeleteSocks are much easier to knit than people think and if I can do it, then most people can. The toe feels okay on, it just looks a little odd when it's not being worn.

ReplyDeleteThey remind me of unicorns too now you've said it, not sure why though. Perhaps I should rename them the rainbow unicorn socks.
Deletei- i think the sherbert would have to grow on me though, but I do like the stripey effect! Christmas is far, far, far off my radar - as the years go by I struggle with gifts for everyone as I have a very non-materialistic family and it does not bother them if they get gifts or not (incl. the 19 year old!)

I knew that if I didn't start early, I wouldn't get done in time. There's been too many years where I've been rushing around at the last minute so I was determined that it wouldn't be the same this year. I'm on track at the moment to be done in good time.

ReplyDeleteI love the colours and the pattern. My very first crochet blanket was in these colours , they remind me of rainbow sherbet :-)
I loved the yarn when I saw it in a ball but wasn't so sure when I started knitting with it. I'm glad I carried on though as I think they're lovely now they're finished and look fabulous on, I just hope that Eleanor likes them.

This is the first time I've used this pattern. I think it might look better in a plainer yarn rather than a stripey one as the pattern makes the socks stripey anyway.

ReplyDeleteIt's a good toe pattern if you don't like grafting, and they don't look pointy on, I just prefer more of a wedged toe myself. I've been knitting socks all though summer, it's the only thing for it if I'm to get all my Christmas gifts completed in time.

I must admit that I haven't seen any Christmas displays in the shops yet, though it's only next week when the kids go back to school so I'm sure the shops will be filled with Christmas goodies then.

ReplyDeleteI think knitting socks in the round is much easier, there's no making up at the end, which is great, and no seams on the socks to cause any discomfort.
DeleteVery pretty! It is funny how you can feel differently about something when it is finished isn't it, I usually find that I like whatever I am making more about 3 days after I finish it!
