Twice As Nice

We've finally got round to booking our holidays. We've spent six of the last eight years down in Cornwall but we decided to have a change this year, not only in destination but also how we take the holiday. Usually, we're away for a fortnight and though we're still having two weeks away this year, we're taking two separate weeks.

The first week, in July, will be spent on the Lincolnshire Coast in a lodge by the edge of a lake. Don't worry, the garden is completely enclosed so Archie won't be able to jump in. Fishing permits are available for the opposite side of the lake, which will please Mick, and it's within walking distance to the beach.

Our second week will be taken in September and we're staying in a cottage by the sea in Norfolk. I've been fancying a holiday in Norfolk for the last few years and it's finally booked.

I wasn't sure whether Eleanor would join us or not this year but she's happy to do so. I'm really pleased as she's such good company. One of the very good friends she's made at university lives in Norfolk so she's going to see if she can meet up with her whilst we're there, which will be nice as the friend has now dropped out of uni and won't be returning in September.

Daniel's taking a holiday further afield this year. He and his girlfriend have booked their airline tickets to Colorado USA where his girlfriend is from. Her sister is getting married in September so they're going for the wedding, and it will give Daniel the opportunity to meet the rest of her family too. He's met her sister before when she came over here a couple of years ago and he met her grandparents when it was their graduation, they came over for the ceremony, but though they've been going out with each other for over three years now, he hasn't met the rest of the family.

How about you, are you going away this year and if so where are you going? I do love hearing about other people's holiday plans.

  1. Sounds great Jo & I've been to parts of Norfolk & liked that a lot, but never really explored much of Lincolnshire. A really good change would be some warmth in Oz!!!!!!!! Maybe one day. Have a good weekend & take care.

    1. I know many people love Norfolk so I'm looking forward to my week there and exploring the county. We took lots of holidays in Lincolnshire when I was a child so it's a place I think of fondly, it's many years ago now so it will be lovely to spend some time there again. I'm afraid I did my long haul flights in my younger days, I'm not keen on flying now so I doubt Oz would ever be on the cards.

  2. I love planning holidays. I find the anticipation just as exiting as the holiday itself. It's so much easier now there is so much information online. X

    1. I love the build up to a holiday, all the time waiting for it to come around and then getting excited as the time draws near. It's much easier planning a holiday now with the internet.

  3. Our big trip was to Japan in March, but we're also going to Spain in October and down the coast here in Georgia in September.

    1. It's lovely having a few holidays to look forward to throughout the year. I enjoy having weekends away too, it's something we did much more when the kids were young but we're hoping to have more weekends away again now that we've got a little more time to ourselves.

  4. They sound like two good places to enjoy yourselves for a week. I've had several good weeks in Norfolk during September in the past.
I'm not fussed about holidays nowadays and happy to make do with occasional days out. xx

    1. I can't remember going away in September before but I know the weather can often be nice at that time so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I enjoy days out too, there's some great places not too far afield and it's good to visit them one in a while.

  5. Both places sound lovely, there will be loads to explore and enjoy. We've been toying with the idea of getting a camper van, but no definite plans as yet xx

    1. I think it will be great holidaying in two different places, it will keep each week interesting. A camper van, how exciting, there'll be no stopping you if you do decide to get one, the world will be your oyster.

  6. Your plans sound wonderful. We have booked once again for Florida in Nov/Dec this time going for three weeks. How wonderful that Daniel will be able to meet up with his girlfriends family after all this time.

    1. We'll be visiting your old neck of the woods in Lincolnshire. We've been to Florida twice and it's somewhere I'd love to go again, a three week holiday there sounds fabulous. Daniel's really looking forward to meeting his girlfriend's family, though he isn't looking forward to the flight, he has a fear of flying, but his girlfriend's obviously worth it as he didn't give it a seconds thought.

  8. Well, I think they are excellent plans Jo.
Haven't been to Norfolk for years, but I can remember the Norfolk Broads as well as the coastline were very nice.
We haven't any definite plans as yet ...

    All the best Jan

    1. I'm really pleased with our plans, something completely different for us this year. I've stayed on the Norfolk coast once when I was a young child but I can't remember very much about it at all and we had a short holiday on the Norfolk Broads when the kids were young but those are the only times I've been to Norfolk so I'm really looking forward to exploring the area.

  9. That sounds a lovely place for a holiday, Jo! It will make a change from Cornwall. Living in Devon, I much prefer Devon to Cornwall, ha ha! I have never been to Lincolnshire, but every county in the UK has lovely places, we are very fortunate to live here.

    1. We've had holidays in both Devon and Cornwall but I think Cornwall must have the edge for us as we've returned there many times. I had lots of holidays in Lincolnshire as a child so I'm sure our holiday this year will bring back fond memories. You're right, we're lucky to have so many wonderful holiday destinations in the country to choose from.

  10. We've nothing planned as yet but, maybe - if we ever get MIL's house sorted and sold - we'll be able to get away somewhere. Anywhere at all will do as long as I don't have to make the meals and do the dishes! :oD

    1. That's the great thing about holidays, having a complete rest from cooking and housework. I hope you get your MIL's house sorted and sold soon so that you can get away somewhere.

  12. sounds lovely, I have never been to either of those places so will look forward to your photos. We are off to Malta very soon, my first ever real holiday, as it will probably be the very last family holiday with both boys we have blown the budget and gone all inclusive !! never done that before, Then we have 2 weeks in August which will be off in our little billy bongo, not sure where yet.

    1. I keep thinking that our next holiday will be the one without either of our children with us but Eleanor's still happy to come again this year, I do think this will be the last though. We had a holiday in Malta back in 1993 before we had children, we went with my Mum and Dad. Being an ex marine, my dad managed to blag us a tour of the Ark Royal which had docked whilst we were there. One of the officers was staying in our hotel and had struck up a conversation with my dad. It was really interesting. My dad was stationed in Malta during his national service so it was interesting hearing his stories and seeing the places he remembered. Malta is lovely and I'm sure you'll have a great time. The fortnight in August in Billy Bongo is something to look forward to too.

  14. It's a lovely idea to have to separate weeks away. The Lincolnshire lodge looks lovely, I was born in Lincolnshire but I don't remember it. I was a baby when we moved back to Suffolk, I'd love to go and explore. Does the lodge have a website, Andy would love to spend a week by water!
We don't have any holiday plans, we rarely go away - Andy is a farmer and busy all year round, so getting away is difficult, especially as he prefers to be at home! He's happy for me to travel without him, so maybe I'll go away with my friend during harvest - he'll hardly know I'm gone :)
Hope you have a fabulous time in both places, Norfolk is beautiful.

    1. I do enjoy a full fortnight away as you really feel as though you've had a holiday after being away for such a length of time, but two separate weeks has its advantages too. The Lincolnshire lodge doesn't have its own website, I found it on one of the cottage sites. I know it's very hard for farmers to find time for holidays, their busy time is during holiday season. It's good that Andy enjoys time at home but it would be fun if you could get away for a while with a friend.

  15. School hols in 2 weeks here and zero planned - I'd like some warmth in Australia, but Australia not good enough for my children, so they say; NZ is too boring they say... teens are boring I say ;) ! I think we've hit the never going away with olds stage about now with the 13/16/18 year olds... I just might go away by myself.... Enjoy you hols! Wish it was summer here...

    1. I'm quite surprised that Eleanor's decided to come away with us again this year, I do think this will be the last time though. It's only natural that teens want different things out of holidays than we do. I hope you manage to find some sunshine somewhere.

  16. That lodge looks like it's in a fantastic place.
We like to split our weeks up too, for me 2 weeks away is too much now, i'm itching to get home after a week, lol
We haven't really taken any holidays in the UK for so long, mainly because Marks work takes him all over and he just likes to completely get away and relax in the sun, something which we can't guarantee here unfortunately. If I could have it all my own way I would prefer to go away in this country, but at least I can usually have an little holiday here depending on where Mark is working :-)
I have a week off in August to look forward to, no plans yet though and apart from that nothing else booked, although we would like to fit in another break and a Christmas Market getaway too if we can. We will see.

    1. Mick's got a fascination with water so this lodge will be perfect for him. I used to find two weeks away too much and I was always ready for home after about ten days, but not so much these days. I can understand Mark wanting to get right away and relax in the sun, Mick was always the same, he's a sun worshipper, but we enjoy taking Archie away with us now so that means holidaying in this country.

  17. We have already had our main holiday of the year, with our annual visit to Majorca. In September we are heading to Pembrokeshire, staying in a little cottage, to celebrate Malcolm's birthday.

  18. Sounds a great plan. I love Norfolk as I was brought up there and go back every 3 weeks to check up on and help my aged parents. I've been to Ireland for a few weekends so far to stay with a good friend (my goddaughter) and I'm just going to have 2 weeks at home in the summer going out for various days, which I love doing.

    1. I hear so many people say how they love Norfolk so I'm really looking forward to seeing it for myself. Ireland is a place I've never been to but again, I hear people say how beautiful it is. I love having time at home and going off for days out too. Mick's going take another week off in summer so that we can do that too.

  19. Two lovely locations, you'll have a ball! Good that E is going with you, she'll enjoy hanging out with her friend too. I haven't booked any hols yet as I have to have my hip replaced over the next few months so need to figure out how long the recuperation is. xxx

    1. I'm really pleased that Eleanor's coming with us again, I'll definitely make the most of her being with us this year as I think it will be the last time. Goodness, I didn't realise you were waiting for a hip replacement, I do hope you recover quickly.

  20. Oh that sounds as if you have two great holidays to look forward to Jo. We had a few holidays in Norfolk when I was a child - I think that you will enjoy it. We have a family wedding to attend in Cornwall this summer so we are adding a few days on to that trip to make it a proper break. We will venture somewhere else no doubt before the year is out but nothing booked yet.
