Antarktis Shawl

I thoroughly enjoyed knitting the Antarktis Shawl by Janina Kallio. It's a paid for pattern on Ravelry and though there's elements which I've never come across in a pattern before, it's easy enough for a beginner to attempt.

It was knit in Debbie Bliss Fine Donegal in the teal colourway and though in theory there should have been enough yarn to complete the shawl in one skein, I didn't swatch to check my tension and I ended up running short of yarn towards the end so I just missed off four rows from the border. I don't think it makes a difference to the finished garment. It has a lovely drape.

A closer look shows the pattern better, and also the tweedy bits in the yarn.

Christmas knitting has started early for me this year, I haven't gifted many hand made items over the last couple of years but I want to start again and so this shawl is the first of my Christmas knits, I just hope the recipient likes it.

    1. I've started early with my Christmas knitting this year so that I'm not rushing at the last minute. I'm hoping that by starting now I've given myself enough time to make a little something for everyone.

  3. That is so beautiful, Jo! I do admire anyone who can make things which are good enough to wear! This is so pretty and it will be snug in autumn and winter. In this lovely shade, it could be worn over both light and dark colours. Very well done!

    1. It's a lovely colour, I don't think the photos have brought out the blue so well, but it's tweedy so there's little mixes of other colours in there too.

  11. My, that shawl is gorgeous and I love the colour too. Tension is such a tricky thing - I find that even when I do a swatch, it's no guarantee that my project will come out at the same gauge.

    1. I must admit that I rarely swatch unless it's for a large garment. I haven't been caught out very often so my tension must be rather average.
