It was celebrations all round yesterday. Firstly, it was Father's Day so Daniel decided to come home from York for the day to bring a card and present for Mick. It was his 21st birthday back in February but he was ill at the time and though we went to York to see him, he didn't feel like going out for a meal. He's been studying hard since then so we never got round to making another date so we decided we'd go out for lunch yesterday to celebrate both occasions. We let Daniel choose where he wanted to go and he went for Bella Italia, how times have changed, he wouldn't touch pizza before he went to university, now he eats lots of things he didn't used to like. And there was I, three years ago, worrying how he would survive away from home.
Actually, we had another reason to celebrate yesterday. Daniel's just had confirmation of his results and he's got a 2:1 degree. We're so very proud of him, he took a tough subject, physics with astrophysics, and he's worked very hard for it.
Now the hard work really starts, he's got to find a job!
Well done to Daniel. And good luck with finding a job.
ReplyDeleteFlighty xx
Thank you. I don't envy him having to start filling in all those job applications.
DeleteMany congratulations to Daniel
ReplyDeleteThank you. These last three years have flown by.
DeleteCongratulations Daniel! I know you both must be feeling tremendously proud of him Jo. xx
ReplyDeleteWe're extremely proud. We know how hard he's worked to get this result.
DeleteCongratulations to your son, that is a hard field of study. I wondered how my daughter would survive when she went off to college, but somehow they do.
ReplyDeleteHe certainly didn't take an easy option. It's amazing how quickly they grow up when they move to university and how they change too, I think the social aspect is really good for them.
DeleteWhat a lovely family weekend for you, Congratulations to Daniel, hard work pays off, x
ReplyDeleteWe had a lovely weekend. Thank you, it does show that you can achieve what you want to with hard work.
DeleteAbsolutely fantastic news! Many congratulations to Daniel, he so deserves his result. Well done from us all.
ReplyDeleteLisa x
Thank you. He's done really well, we're so proud of him.
Deletebrilliant day all round, I'm really pleased for your family.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a lovely weekend finding out this news.
DeleteCongratulations to Daniel on achieving a very commendable result! (and learning to like pizza, a very necessary skill in today's world!)
ReplyDeleteThank you. Ha ha, I must admit that I wondered how he'd get on in life not liking pizza.
DeleteCongrats all round and good luck with the job hunting.
ReplyDeletexx
Thank you. He's hoping that he can find a job pretty quickly as he's not looking forward to coming back home to live.
DeleteFantastic achievement Daniel! I can barely spell physics and I am in awe of anyone who has a great understanding of this subject.
ReplyDeleteThank you. He can't discuss anything about it with me because it all just goes over my head.
DeleteWell done..wow what a subject ...glad you had lots to celebrate Jo
ReplyDeleteHe's certainly enjoyed learning more about physics and astrophysics and we're so pleased that he's done so well.
DeleteHow wonderful that Daniel should come away from University with such good results! With 2 young kids, I often wonder (and worry) about how things will get on with them as the years pass. It must be such a great feeling to know that he is on such a promising path.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long journey to get where he is now, GCSEs, A levels, not to mention the SATs tests he had through school. There was a time when he first started at uni that he was doubting his choice of course so it feels fantastic that he got right though it and got such a great result.
DeleteCongratulations, a wonderful achievement.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We're all so proud of him and pleased that he's done so well.
DeleteUniversity provides an education in lots of other ways too. Congratulations on the 2:1 degree and good luck with the job hunting. Jo you must have been so proud and excited to have him home.
ReplyDeleteIt does, Daniel went off three years ago hardly knowing how to fend for himself but he matured so quickly and is now an independent young man. I'm really proud of him and now looking forward to seeing what's around the corner for him.
DeleteWell done to your son and good luck with the job hunting.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We're hoping that he finds a job soon but there's so many people out there all applying for the same jobs, I'm sure it could take him a while to find something but fingers crossed.
DeleteWhat a lovely way to celebrate Daniel´s 21st, Father´s day and a brilliant result, many congratulations all round. Sounds like a very in depth subject, fingers crossed for many positive responses on the job front so he can keep his independence. Whilst it is lovely to have them back, somehow it is never quite the same, but then that is life :-) and they know we are always there for them xcx
ReplyDeleteThank you. The subject he's studied is far too complicated for me to understand but it's a good degree to have. I do hope he finds a job soon, as you say, he'll then be able to keep his independence which is quite important to him now. He does know that there'll always be a bedroom here for him though.
DeleteCongratulations to Daniel, what lovely news! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, we couldn't have wished for better news.
DeleteOh that's such great news Jo. You all must be so proud of him! Many congratulations to Daniel and wishing him well as the next chapter of his life unfolds xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you. We're all immensely proud of him, he's had a great time at university but has worked very hard to get the results he has.
DeleteThat's fabulous, really well done Daniel!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's been worth all the hard work.
DeleteCongratulations Daniel and do hope you find the job you are looking for. Take care all.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Unfortunately, many employers require experience as well as qualifications so he may have to take something he's not so keen on to start off with, we'll see.
DeleteOh how wonderful. Well done to Daniel - although it seems no time at all since he was leaving for uni!
ReplyDeleteThank you. You're right, I don't know where the last three years have gone, and now we're starting all over again with Eleanor.
DeleteItalian is one of my favourite cuisines so, well done Daniel on choice of venue and his degree.
ReplyDeleteWe favour Italian too, pizza always goes down well here. Thank you.
DeleteCongratulations Daniel on a wonderful result!! I hope that whatever the future brings it is fabulous! Jo, I love your new yarns!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I do too. The future is always a worry when you have kids but having them set out on the right footing is a help. My yarn stash is stocked up again now.
DeleteCongrats to Daniel! Great reason to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteThank you. You're right, we were all in the mood to celebrate after hearing the news.
DeleteA huge congrats to your Daniel. Well done!
ReplyDeletexxx
Thank you. It's a big relief to us all.
DeleteOh how wonderful, well done to Daniel. Excellent result and sounds like a very difficult subject xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. He's had to work very hard to get the results he has.
DeleteCongrats on the wonderful news.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Thank you. We're all really pleased that he's got such good results.
Deletecongratulations. Please do tell what a 2:1 means, as that means zero to me in New Zealand. Obviously great. We get awarded degrees and they can be first or second class honours, but are not termed 2:1 or anything else.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Grades awarded by universities here are first, second or third class honours but the second class is divided in to higher (2:1) or lower (2:2). Each piece of work throughout the course is awarded so many credits towards the final grade and the results are averaged out. First - 70%+, 2:1 60%-70%, 2:2 50%-60%, Third 45%-50%+, Pass 40%-45%. Many of his friends, both doing the same course and other courses, aren't graduating as they're resitting some of the exams so Daniel's done well to achieve such a good result, we're really proud of him.
Deletethanks! Lucky students who get a chance to re-sit. Here you would need to re-take the entire paper over another whole year and pay $700-1000 again per paper. Pass is 50% here. Uni exam for me tomorrow for 40% of course, but need 8% to pass, but I still hate exams and freak out!
DeleteI'm not sure how the resits work as Daniel hasn't had to do any, but they're obviously not done in time to graduate this year, they may have to resit the whole year and pay again, I don't really know. One thing I do know though it that the maximum result you can get in a resit is 40%. You could get every single question right but they'd only award you 40%, just enough to pass. Good luck with your exam today, that's a big percentage of your grade so I hope you do really well.
DeleteMany congratulations to Daniel!
ReplyDeleteThank you. We're all very proud of him.
DeleteI'm a bit late to the party as I've been away for a few days!
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations to Daniel, and all good wishes in the job hunt.
All the best Jan
Thank you. We're hoping he can get a job soon.
DeleteOh congratulations Daniel....what a clever chap! What kind of a job is he after?xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you. He'd definitely like to do something in relation to his Physics degree but the problem is that most, if not all, of the jobs he's seen require experience so he may have to take more or less anything to gain some experience before he applies for something he really wants.
