On The Menu

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter. Our Easter Sunday was filled with family, good food, chocolate and lots of laughter. What more can you ask for?

I cooked beef and turkey with all the trimmings for dinner and it looks like turkey is going to be on the menu for quite some time. I'd already bought what I needed for our Easter meal but when Mick popped in to Tesco on Saturday evening for something I'd forgotten, he came across these turkeys which had been reduced by just over a half. He rang me and asked if he should buy them. "Definitely", was my reply.

I decided that instead of cooking the turkey crown I'd already bought for dinner yesterday, I'd freeze that and cook the largest of these two turkeys instead, along with the joint of beef I'd bought. As you can imagine, there's lots of leftovers. It won't go to waste though, I usually buy more than we need for dinner so that there's plenty left to use in other meals.

Our family gathering is continuing today, Daniel and his girlfriend are still here and Eleanor's boyfriend is joining us this afternoon. At least they won't go hungry!

  1. I love cold turkey sandwiches, use the dark meat from the bottom for a thick broth, and of course curry, see you later just hubby and I coming. Busy with my sewing machine today, having loads of fun.

    1. The dark meat is going in to a slow cooker casserole or stew and there's still plenty of breast left which were having with chips for a treat tonight. I love cold turkey sandwiches too. There's still lots of beef left aswell so lots to go round.

  5. Another good deal! Unfortunately, I'm the only deal finder in our household - my husband is more the buy it and then be surprised by the price at the checkout kind of guy :)

  7. We've still got 2 turkeys in the freeze, one of which is coming out this week. I think it's going to make at least a week's meals for the 2 of us.

    1. The one turkey, along with the beef, has already made dinner for seven on Sunday and dinner for six yesterday and there's still loads left.

    1. I think we'll be eating turkey for quite some time, but in a number of different ways so we won't get bored of it. Mick's back to work today and Eleanor's back to school but Daniel and his girlfriend are still here. They're going back to uni after dinner this evening. The house will seem awfully quiet tomorrow.

  15. We came home from Tesco on Sunday with a bag of 4 baking potatoes reduced to 10p, then when Malcolm was in today they still had them, so he came home with another bag (we do like a bargain!)

    1. Ooops. I love lamb but Daniel and Eleanor aren't keen so we don't have it very often, I don't mind though, I love beef too.

  17. Good buys, but I would have left them on the shelf as we aren't that keen on turkey here. We had a piece of beef and I was looking forward to it all day but when I cooked it it just wasn't as tasty as I was hoping. Never mind the yorkshires made up for it!

    1. We're big meat eaters so it was good to get such bargains. What a shame about your beef, I'm glad you had the Yorkshires to make up for it. I must admit that beef is my absolute favourite meat, and Mick's too.

  18. It's always nice to bag a bargain don't you think. We still have a turkey in the freezer from Christmas and I'm not sure when it's likely to get eaten. D's friend is coming to stay for a few days so it might be the ideal time for it to get used up.

    1. I love bagging a bargain. We don't usually have turkey unless it's a celebration of some kind, usually Christmas, but I think we'll be having a fair few turkey meals in the near future.
