H2Only

I can't remember now where we first saw it mentioned but Eleanor and I thought the RNLI's H2Only campaign at the beginning of the month was a great idea.

H2Only was a ten day challenge set by the RNLI to drink only water, to raise money for this deserving charity. I didn't take up the challenge but Eleanor did. She did really well and drank nothing but water for the whole ten days, there was no cheating at all. I was quite surprised that she managed it really as she does like her fizzy, sugary drinks. It saved me some money not having to buy Eleanor's favourite drinks when I did my shopping so I donated what I'd saved to the RNLI.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution provide a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland as well as a seasonal lifeguard service. It's funded by charitable donations and has saved over 140000 lives since it was founded in 1824. A very worthy cause.

    1. I thought it was a great challenge, especially for people who drink lots of tea, coffee or alcohol, harder things to give up for a period of ten days. I don't think Eleanor felt any better for it, it just made her more moody as she couldn't drink what she wanted.

    1. I didn't drink anything but water when I was a child. I didn't like orange juice or hot drinks, I still don't drink coffee and only occasionally tea, I've never drunk milk and we rarely had fizzy drinks back then.

    1. There's so many people who volunteer to crew the lifeboats risking their lives every time they're called out on a rescue, the least we can do is support this very worthy cause.

    1. I don't think any of us know when we or one of our loved ones will have to call on the services of charities such as this. It's comforting to know that they're there should we ever need them.

  5. What a great idea! My youngest will only drink water so it would be no hardship for her, but my eldest likes a glass of fizzy something or other every now and again so it would have been good for her to do it xx

    1. I think these sort of challenges really capture the public's imagination. Eleanor decided to do it as soon as she heard about it.

  6. What a brilliant campaign, good for youngsters to understand just how much fizzy pop they get through. I prefer water to fizzies.

  7. I would find it hard to do, as I simply don't like drinking water! However I drink diet fizzy, so don't feel quite as guilty. I do love a good cup of tea, but I rarely drink coffee - I don't mind the taste, but don't find it thirst-quenching.

    1. I love a cold glass of water, especially on hot days, I don't think anything quenches a thirst as water does.

  8. Such a good idea, some people get addicted to these fizzy drinks don't they.
I used to drink lots more water than I do now, a cold glass on a hot water is heaven!

    1. I must admit that I used to drink more water than I do now too, I should follow Eleanor's example and make more of an effort.

    1. I think the main problem is that water can become a bit boring but I think we should all try and drink more as it does us good.

    1. I think most people would find it quite hard, water can be very bland. I've always encouraged water at meal times though.

  12. What a very good cause ... and a good way to raise funds.

We are far better drinking water and avoiding fizzy drinks - and some of the younger generation can sometimes find this hard to do.

I raise a glass of water to Eleanor and say 'Well Done'

    All the best Jan
