I'm not ill very often, so why is it then that I could get a cold any day of the year, but it has to come for the bank holiday weekend?
Actually, it started on Wednesday and today is the first day that I've started to feel any better. It's really knocked me off my feet with the sore throat, runny nose, sore eyes and achey muscles, though I've had to carry on with all the household chores as you do when you're a wife and mum.
We hadn't planned to do anything this weekend. Mick was supposed to be playing cricket yesterday but the match was cancelled as the pitch was waterlogged. It allowed him an extra day to get Daniel's bedroom decorated. We've had the walls plastered as they've been papered before, so now we can just paint them. The carpet's being fitted next weekend. We're in a rush to get it done before Daniel tells us he wants to come home from university for the weekend again.
Eleanor's pleased that she's got a break from her exams at the moment, the next one isn't until next Monday. She's given the revision a rest this weekend, and yesterday she met up with a friend and they went clothes shopping in Leeds. It's the first time she's seen friends outside school since her GCSEs started, she's been non stop revising so it's nice for her to have a bit of a break, though I'm sure she'll soon be back to it as she's still got five more exams to come.
I'm having a rest this weekend whilst I nurse this cold, though hopefully, I'm now on the mend. I think an afternoon in front of the tv with my crochet is called for.
Hope you're back to full health very soon Jo.
ReplyDeleteKL has finished uni now - we're picking her stuff up in a few weeks when J has a week off. When does Daniel finish? It's nice for Eleanor to have a break and some time with friends - what better than clothes shopping at that age!
Thank you, I'm feeling much better today. Daniel's still in the middle of his exams at the moment, he doesn't officially finish until 27th of June, he's got lab sessions booked in on his timetable right up to then but as most students on other courses finish before this date, he's hoping they may remove these sessions. Eleanor enjoyed her day in Leeds with her friend, she's been studying very hard so she deserved a day off.
DeleteI hope you feel better soon Jo, like you say, no rest when you're a wife and Mum. Even if others do the chores for you they still need to be told what needs doing, what needs to be cooked for tea, so your brain doesn't get a rest! Crochet and TV sounds like just the cure x
ReplyDeleteThank you. Mick and Eleanor have been looking after me very well, but as you say, there's things you just have to get on with yourself. I'm just dreading the cough which always follows a cold now.
Deletehope you feel a bit better soon....that's miserable this time of the year. We are in the middle of exams in our house too.........not much fun :(
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'd have felt worse if we'd had lovely weather over the bank holiday but I haven't minded hunkering down with the rain lashing down outside. Good luck to those taking exams in your house, I hope they do really well.
DeleteLong weekends and holiday times seem to be when illness strikes. It's like the germs somehow know. I hope you're feeling better soon, and hopefully you are able to do a few nice things this weekend in spite of your cold.
ReplyDeleteI've been ill over Christmas a few times. I think you have all the stress getting ready for it, and then when you eventually slow down, your body allows the germs to strike. I'm feeling much better today, thank you.
DeleteOh sorry to read that you are under the weather Jo. There is never a good moment for a cold. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your good wishes. I've felt very sorry for myself over the last few days, I really detest colds, but I'm feeling much brighter today.
DeleteMy sympathies, and I hope that you feel better soon. Thankfully I very rarely get colds. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm not ill very often but I have to admit that I make a very bad patient when I am. They ridicule men for having Man Flu, but I have the women's equivalent.
DeleteGet well soon. I think a large proportion of the country has caught this cold.
ReplyDeleteLove from Mum
xx
Thank you. I'm definitely on the mend now, thank goodness. I'm just hoping that I haven't shared it with the rest of the family.
DeleteHope you're back to normal soon Jo. At least you wont feel guilty staying in the house seeing as the weather is so grim.
ReplyDeleteHope you are back to fighting fitness soon Jo. An afternoon in front of the tv with crocheting sounds good to me.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I think I'm just about back to myself after today, these things do take their time to go.
DeleteI hope the afternoon in front of the telly with your crocheting helped, Jo. Feel better soon! :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling much better today so I'm sure it did help. There's nothing quite like a lazy day to make you feel better.
DeleteThe best medicine for a cold is rest and some crafting. I send my sympathies I had a similar thing last week that saw me have three days off work and two days in bed. Feeling much better now though.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that you've been feeling under the weather too but glad to hear you're feeling better. I'm definitely on the road to recovery, I'm feeling much better today.
DeletePoor you! Hope the crochet went well and you found something good on TV?
ReplyDeleteI'm still plodding on with Eleanor's ripple blanket. It's slow going but I'm really enjoying making it. I always manage to find something to watch on tv, usually something I've taped from ages ago which I haven't had time to watch.
DeleteIt's so hard to be sick when you've got a family to look after. I hope you feel better soon and that you were able to get hooky time in front of the TV.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely hard when you've got young children to look after, but even when the kids are older, like mine, there's still jobs to be done. I'm feeling much better today, thank you, I'm definitely on the mend.
DeletePoor Jo. I do hope you feel better soon and enjoy the rest of you bank holiday weekend. Sounds like colds are the thing in Yorkshire at the moment, so you take care.
ReplyDeleteI'm not ill very often so it really hits me hard when I am. I'm also very soft so I don't do poorly very well at all. Thank goodness I'm on the mend, though as you say, it seems that lots of people have got this cold at the moment, I'm just hoping that Eleanor manages to stay well, at least until her GCSEs are over.
DeleteHope you're feeling a lot better now and recovering from your bad cold and everyone else stays fit and well in your household.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm feeling much better today and a cough hasn't developed yet so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I've got away with that. No sign of anyone else coming down with it either, which is good news.
DeleteSorry to read you havent been well, you have the right idea...rest..tv...and crochet..perfect! I hope you dont get a cough, Ive had a tickly cough for a few weeks, its driving me mad! Lots of healthy vibes winging their way to you. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm on the mend, at last, but still keeping my fingers crossed that a cough doesn't develop. I hope you get some relief from your cough soon, they're horrible things, especially when they're tickly too.
DeleteI hope that by now you are feeling better and that your afternoon of the couch and crochet helped! Another day of relaxing should see you right and then you can enjoy the fact that you will be all prepared for Daniel to come home again! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling much better, thank you. Mick's been busy all weekend with Daniel's room and there isn't much left to do now. Eleanor's been a great help too as she's been painting and is currently reinstalling the fitted furniture with Mick.
DeleteOh dear poor you, I'm glad you're feeling a little better.
ReplyDeleteWhen the cricket is off you can get a few little jobs out of the way can't you, I ticked a set of shelves off my list last week!
I was hoping to decorate Number 1 son's room when he leaves for Uni, I don't know how often he'll travel back home though - that is if he gets there in the first place, A level exams are full on after half term and there is more cricket than revising being done at the moment!
Good luck to Eleanor although she sounds like she's working very hard.
Mick always seems to crack on with jobs when cricket's cancelled, I think it's his way of taking his frustration out on the weather. Daniel's room is just about done now, it wouldn't be had he played, so I'm secretly glad that it was raining on Saturday. We've just got to get the carpet laid now and that's booked in for Saturday morning. I've been saying that we'll decorate his room ever since he left for uni last October so it's high time it was done. I'm sure your son will buckle down and get some revision done before his exams begin, Daniel was just the same, he thought he didn't need to do much revision, they only learn they do after the event. Thank you for the good wishes for Eleanor, she's really doing her best so I hope her results reflect this.
DeleteOh no, poor you! Still, on the plus side, you have that lovely book from your last blogpost to read whilst you get better - if you're allowed to in between getting on with the usual chores! X Cathy
ReplyDeleteI've plenty of things I can do whilst I sit and recuperate, I'd never get bored. Oh for more hours in a day.
