Evita

We had a wonderful time last night at Leeds Grand Theatre watching Evita.

Mick and I have seen it on stage before, but it was the first time for Eleanor, though she's seen the film and loves the music. She's performed songs from it many times on stage herself. This production was different from the last one we saw, we thought this was the better of the two, though we still enjoyed it last time.

Marti Pellow from Wet Wet Wet took the part of Che and he did a fantastic job. Last time we saw this musical, three actresses took the part of Evita, each playing a different time of Eva Peron's life, but in this production, Madalena Alberto played the whole part herself, quite a demanding role as she's on stage nearly the whole way through, and it lasts for over two hours.

The flyer includes a couple of quotes. The Stage: "I defy anybody who sees this production to say they have seen a better one". What's On Stage: "Everything about this show is spectacular... As good if not better than any of its predecessors...Truly magnificent". Quite a claim, but true in our experience.

    1. It was a fabulous evening. Evita is one of my favourite musicals, I didn't notice the clock whizzing round, it seemed to be over in no time at all, I was so engrossed.

    1. It was a fabulous show, wasn't it? She had such a strong and powerful voice, but also very tender for the more poignant songs. I loved Nic Gibney who played Magaldi, I thought he had a brilliant voice and Mark Heenehen who played Peron was fantastic too.

  3. Glad you enjoyed it Jo. I saw it advertised but to be honest we have got a few things booked this year and I didnt think we could splash out again just after our holiday. I love the music.

    1. It's so expensive to go to the theatre these days, I'm sure they'd get more people going if they lowered the prices. Saying that, it was sold out on Saturday. We're lucky as we earn theatre vouchers from a shopping panel we're on which pays for most of the shows we go to see.

  4. Sounds like a great show, though I've never seen it myself. I do know the story and a lot of the music from it. Take care.

    1. It's a show which Mick was looking forward to. He doesn't often come to the theatre with Eleanor and I, he will only go to see something he really wants to. We all enjoyed it very much.

  7. It would be worth me going to see it just for Marti Pellow. I was a big fan of Wet, Wet, Wet in their day. Those eyes and that smile.

    1. Ha ha. He still has the eyes and smile. I can't say that I was ever that taken with him though, but he was fabulous on Saturday.

    1. It was a fabulous night. If you knew what my singing voice sounds like you wouldn't ask that question, I wouldn't inflict it on anyone.
