I started my One A Day Blanket right back on the first day of the year. My aim was to crochet one square each day and join them as I went along, a joining technique I hadn't tried before. I really enjoyed the laid back approach to making this blanket, one square each day is so achievable.
It's made up of 192 squares, 12 X 16, so on the 11th of July, the 192nd day of the year, the blanket was complete. All I had to do then was crochet the border. I put the blanket to one side while we went on holiday, I needed a more portable project to take with me, and then when I got home, I concentrated on Daniel's Ripple Blanket as I wanted that to be finished to take with him to university.
The border didn't take long, it's just five rows of granny clusters, but I'm happy with how it finishes the blanket off.
I love this blanket, it's a real hotch potch of colours. I had the yarn, Stylecraft Special DK, bought for me for Christmas so I didn't choose the colours myself, but they're such jolly, happy colours.
It's been finished at just the right time, the cooler weather will be here before we know it and I have a lovely, squishy blanket to snuggle up in.
It looks really great Jo, hope you enjoy snuggling under it. I like the idea of a square a day!
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's so soft that it will be lovely to snuggle under.
DeleteIt's really beautiful Jo, and reminds me of Elmer!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's bright and jolly, just like Elmer.
DeleteThat is it! I knew it reminded me of something, but couldn't place it. Elmer!!!
DeleteIt's definitely got a look of Elmer.
DeleteLovely, really bright and cheery. Well done for sticking to a square a day - I'm very impressed. No matter how easy it is I think I'd still lack the discipline to keep it going on busy days.
ReplyDeleteI did sometimes miss a couple of days when I was busy or when I had other things on, but I soon caught up again, and in the main, kept on track. It's a great way to complete a large project, it scales it down and makes it more manageable.
DeleteI love the colours, you've put them together brilliantly. What a great way to tackle such a large project :) xx
ReplyDeleteI tried to space out the more noticeable colours, too many bright colours close together may not have been a good look, but apart from that, they're pretty random. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out.
DeleteWell done, it looks really good. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's lovely and colourful, and so soft and squishy too. Perfect for the cold winter days ahead.
DeleteWow Jo that's just so lovely and you'll get lots of use out of it as the weather turns chilly (just around the corner) I'm now on my third blanket this year and this time I think I've made it big enough to fit a double bed, third time lucky! Amanda x
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm sure it will be well used. These crochet blankets are so addictive, I'm going to be starting another one soon, Eleanor's after a ripple.
DeleteFantastic Jo.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out.
DeleteGorgeous colors and I really like the border, the idea of just a square a day is a great idea. I often get bored when working on a large crochet project which means it takes me forever and a day to finish.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I didn't really know what to do for the border, but I think it's worked out fine. I started this blanket off knowing that I was only going to crochet one square each day so it wasn't daunting at all. On the other hand, I wasn't rushing to get it finished either, or putting it on the back burner in favour of something else, I could get on with other things as well as my one square each day so it did get finished on time. I may start another project like this in the future.
DeleteBeautiful blanket, but why wouldn't it be? I bet it only feels like a few weeks that you started, but finished just in time for the change in temperatures.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I have to admit, it grew very quickly, and as I was joining on the go I could see it coming together very soon after starting it. I think I've finished it in the nick of time, the temperatures are due to drop by the end of the week. You must let me know if you've started some socks and how you're getting on.
DeleteBeautiful colours, beautiful blanket.
ReplyDeleteLove from Mum
xx
Thank you. I think this should be called my happy blanket, the colours are so cheerful.
DeleteIt's absolutely gorgeous Jo!! That is a brilliant idea you know, just a square a day, then you don't feel over whelmed right?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!
I hope you have a great week,
Tammy
Thank you. I really enjoyed having a longer project on the go, it was such a laid back project and allowed me to complete other projects at the same time.
DeleteIts gorgeous Jo. You always make lovely things. I always have several things on the go at once and struggle to finish them! I really should finish one thing before I start another. Just painting at the mo, trying out Annie Sloan paint that everyone is raving about.I'll let you all know how I get on.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing to say, thank you. I can't concentrate if I have too many things on the go, but the point of this project was to allow me to work on other things along side it at the same time. It helped me to have more than one thing on the go without stressing about it. I shall be interested to hear what you think of the Annie Sloan paint.
DeleteIt looks great! I particularly like the 'joining as you go along' method. It creates a very pretty finish with all your different colours. Jx
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was unsure about the join as you go method when I first started it, but I think it's worked out really well, it actually gives a very neat finish.
DeleteOh it's gorgeous, Jo. Great job! :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm sure it will get well used this winter.
DeleteIt's beautiful, Jo! I'd really like to try making a blanket with the little solid squares someday. I really love the look. Your colors are so bright and fresh. I am sure you'll enjoy your blanket this winter. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love the look of blankets with solid squares, a nice patchwork effect. We're just coming to the time when it's going to be needed so I'm glad I've got it finished.
DeleteWhat a bright, snuggly blanket for cosying up with. You'll all be fighting over it do doubt in the Winter months. Well done :0) xx
ReplyDeleteI've got two blankets now which will live downstairs in the winter months so plenty to keep us warm, though this one is more snuggly somehow.
DeleteGorgeous Jo ... and surely the best way to tackle such a big project :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. It certainly made it less daunting.
DeleteLovely, I too have been joining grannies as I go.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and leaving a comment. It's a great joining method, I'll definitely use it again.
DeleteLove the blanket and such an easy going sort of project. Well done you. Sorry, I think I'm behind on blogs, but you know the reason why. Have a good weekend and take care.
ReplyDeleteIt's been very easy going, it grew in no time at all with the join as you go method, a very enjoyable project.
DeleteOh wow, it's fabulous! I love the colours. Even though you joined it randomly, the colour placement is just so distributed and evenly balanced. It's such a jolly, joyful blanket. x
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty random, though I did ensure that the bright colours were fairly evently spaced and that I didn't join the two same colours together. I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
DeleteIt's a real patchwork of warmth and colour.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely snuggly time with your blanket!
You've made something really beautiful.
Lisa x
Thank you. The weather's much cooler now so I'm sure it will be getting used very soon, though I doubt it will be me who gets to use it, Eleanor's already got her eye on it.
DeleteIts Great!! Lovely and happy!
ReplyDeleteI know it will put a smile on my face each time I use it.
