Challenge Update - August

My 2013 challenges are:-

1) Watch one old film each month.

2) List five items on Ebay each month.

3) Have a date night with Mick each month.

From Here To Eternity is another film I've really enjoyed. I hadn't seen it before, but I shall certainly watch it again. I thought the acting was excellent and each character was so different, it held my attention right the way through. So much more than a love story.

I've got more items listed on Ebay at the moment, the auctions end tomorrow. It's great to see the back of some unwanted items whilst my Paypal balance is increasing.

Our date night this month wasn't very imaginative, another meal in the local pub. To be honest, we enjoy it there and it's so cheap, £5 for a meal and a drink is included, so it's such good value. It's all about the company anyway, and it's so lovely to have time to ourselves for an evening.

Mick's been on holiday this week, so we've enjoyed some lovely days out which I'll be posting about soon. We've also had a trip to York to look at the area surrounding the university so that Daniel could get his bearings before he actually goes at the end of September, and we've also done lots of shopping, mostly things which Daniel will need to take with him, but also some new school shoes for Eleanor as it's back to school for her on Tuesday. The end of the school holidays already, I don't know where the time goes.

    1. Frank Sinatra is in it, he's excellent, though all the actors are. I really enjoyed the film.

  2. Never seen from here to eternity, sounds like it's worth a watch though. I can't quite believe we're at the end of the school hols, we haven't done half as much as I'd hoped to. The kids are back next Thursday here so that's nearly a week away- I've still got time!

    1. It's definitely worth a watch. Time seems to be whizzing by now, it doesn't seem two minutes since they were breaking up. Only one of mine is returning this year, the other will be packing his bags and going to university at the end of September, sob, sob.

  3. Well done keeping up with your challenges. I love York and have you been to the Quilt Museum? They change the displays quite often and other than that it is quite interesting.

    1. I haven't been to the Quilt Museum. It was only a quick trip on this occasion to look at the area surrounding the university, but we're only twenty minutes away from York so we visit quite often.

  4. From Here To Eternity is definitely one of those Saturday afternoon movies on the BBC but the same as you I've never seen it before, glad you enjoyed it, got to be good if you would happily watch it again.
The weeks go by so quickly don't they, can't believe it's back to school next week.

    1. Try and catch it if you can, it's definitely worth watching. Eleanor was supposed to be back at school on Monday, but it's a teacher training day, so she goes back on Tuesday now, my birthday.

  6. As long as you have the date night, that's all that matters right? That's what I think.... Just the time alone is the main thing.
I like my paypal account when it increases too, I'm saving up for some things that I want to buy before I move to the UK, like a really nice camera, of course I'd have to learn how to use it :)
The summer seemed to go so slow at times, but now that it's over, I'm wondering where it went!
Have a great weekend my friend!

    1. I'm loving our date nights, going out alone without the kids is something we've rarely done over the years so it's nice to have some time to ourselves now. I bought a DSLR camera recently, though I've no idea how to use it. I'm hoping to enrol on a photography course, but haven't managed to find one in the area yet. I think the summer has raced by, I wish the holidays were only just beginning rather than coming to an end.

  7. That's another good film. I wouldn't worry about being imaginative as long as you enjoy yourselves which you obviously do.
It sounds like you've had a good week. Flighty xx

    1. I really enjoyed the film. Mick hasn't seen it before so I might watch it again with him. Having time to ourselves is lovely after bringing a family up for the past eighteen years, not that I haven't enjoyed every minute of it, but it's nice to have a bit of time to ourselves again. We've had a great week, I've got a couple more blog posts to come about the things we got up to.

    1. Hmmm, I think Daniel will actually be glad that he doesn't have to go back to school next week, especially if he manages a couple of lie ins without me turfing him out of bed. I think Daniel's quite excited about moving to uni, I'm really excited for him and wish I'd had the chance to go. I just hope that he grabs every opportunity that comes his way.

    1. I don't think we'd find a meal out anywhere any cheaper. I think I'll have to come up with something a bit different this month though.

    1. Two thirds of the year gone already, I don't know where time goes. Daniel goes to uni four weeks today, I'm a bit sad seeing my first born leave the nest to make his own way in life, but it's so exciting for him. I just hope he makes the most of everything on offer.
