I keep saying that I'll grow some myself. I've actually bought a packet of seed but haven't got round to sowing them yet. If I get a move on and sow them soon, they'll flower for me next year.

DeleteJust spotted a packet of sunflowers seeds in the kitchen behind the biscuit tin! I did sow a packet of small sunflower seeds though and three of the four seeds are in flower - just waiting for the last one to open up.

I haven't been very successful with sunflowers this year, many of the seeds I sowed didn't germinate, another casualty of the cold spring.

They weren't even reduced, unlike most of my flower purchases. I hope I'll have my own to cut next year, if I manage to get the seeds sown.
DeleteTheyre dead easy to grow from seed too Jo but are biennial so if you want to grow your own for next year better get cracking.

DeleteOh, that took, me right back to my childhood...my parents loved Sweet William and grew lots, right by the back door.

DeleteThey were my Dad's favourites. J grew some from seed for me, and we brought them from the allotment and I have them in the garden now. Great photos of yours!

ReplyDeleteI hope you find what you want. I love to visit flower stalls if I go to a market, but that means a rare trip in to Leeds, so I have to settle for supermarket flowers, though they're quite good quality as they tend to last for ages.

DeleteI grow a really dark one called Sooty from seed. It always does well.
