Blanket Update

I thought I'd give you a bit of an update on the two blankets I'm in the process of crocheting.

As today is the 137th day of the year, my One A Day blanket now consists of 137 squares. I haven't thought about how big I'd ultimately like it to be, I'm just continuing with it until I think it's big enough. It's twelve squares wide, and this time next week will be the 144th day of the year, so it will be a perfect square as it will also be twelve squares long.

Daniel's Ripple blanket now has six colour repeats, so that's sixty rows in total. There's still quite a long way to go with this one.

I'm really enjoying both blankets. I'm not someone who has lots of projects on the go at any one time, but I have to say that it's great alternating the two, though I don't get a good run at the One A Day blanket as I'm only crocheting one square for it each day.

As you can see, they're two totally different blankets, but I love them both.

  1. I love both these blankets, I am currently making a 'pink' one for my great niece, but am very keen to a ripple one too. I do try to be more disciplined to do only one project at a time, but am failing miserably!! Looking forward to see future progress.

    1. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. I wish I'd learnt to crochet years ago now, I'd have loved to have made blankets when Daniel and Eleanor were babies. I find I can't really concentrate if I have too many projects on the go so tend to stick to one crochet project and one knitting project. It's quite fun crocheting two blankets alongside each other though.

  3. Well done Jo, not only on how lovely both blankets are, but on your discipline in making one square a day.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. I have to confess that I've slipped behind a couple of times on my One A Day blanket, but I've caught up again in no time. I'm enjoying the steady pace of that blanket.

    2. As you say one square a day is not too difficult to achieve. I have been doing the Big Knit with innocent drinks for a few years and this year promised myself to make one a day from when I had notification that they were organising the event again this year. I knit very simple ones and they take under half an hour each, but like you have missed a couple of days. My blanket is not growing as quickly as I would like but I am a very impatient person!

    3. I've kept saying that I'm going to take part in The Big Knit but haven't got round to it yet, perhaps this will be the year. The thing I'm enjoying about my One A Day blanket is the fact that I'm not expecting it to be finished any time soon. It's nice to have a project which I know is supposed to be completed at a relaxed pace. Do you have a blog yourself?

  6. I really like them both. Is the plan that Daniel will take his to uni as 'a little piece of home'? Have a good weekend. Jx

    1. I must admit, that was the plan. I really like the idea of Daniel taking his off to uni with him, but he wasn't actually bothered about me making him a blankie in the first place, so we'll have to see.

    1. I'm not a very fast crocheter so it's nice to do some progress posts along the way. I'm sure they'll both take me a while yet to finish.

  8. They're beautiful Jo. I'm busy with a knitted cushion cover for KL to take to uni . I can't wait to finish it as I have an appliqued one in mind for her aswell.

    1. I love applique, it would definitely be something I'd do if I could sew. I never tend to make knitted home furnishings, I should really knit some cushion covers to go with the crochet ones I've made.

  9. Beautiful, both of them. I love the "one square a day" project, it's a great idea. I can't believe how much it's grown already! And the ripple blanket is looking fantastic. x

    1. It's amazing how fast a blanket grows even when just one square each day is added. The texture of each blanket is totally different. This is my first ripple and I love the feel of it.

  10. They are both coming along so wonderfully well.
The patchwork on reminds me of Elmer the elephant!

    1. The patchwork one is so so squishy. It's amazing how the pattern affects how the yarn feels. Daniel and Eleanor used to love Elmer the Elephant, always a favourite in our house, so I hope the blankie is too.

  11. Both blankets are looking good and I can't believe how disciplined you are with only two things on the go. I know that I'll never be like that, but I suppose it makes the world interesting that we are not all the same. Well done.

    1. I don't think I'd be able to concentrate if I had too many projects on the go, though having these two going at the same time does give me a bit of variety. I usually have some knitting on the needles but haven't started anything for a while so I'm sure I'll come across something I want to knit soon.

    1. I do like the ripple and I'm really pleased with the colours I chose for it. I just hope that Daniel likes it as much as I do.

  14. My boys have a blanket each that comes out at winter time but to them it's no big deal. The Princess has her own and plans to make one herself soon! I loved making them.
Got to say I am feeling blanket itch to make another one for the living room! I love the ripple blanket!

    1. I don't think boys see these things as we do, I'm far more excited about the ripple blanket than Daniel is, yet it's for him that I'm making it. I'm really enjoying working on it actually, it's such a relaxing pattern to follow.

  15. Hi Jo, I'm finding it hard to believe that we have had 137 days already this year.My goodness, it will be autumn then christmas before we know it! Your blankets look lovely.I have only just taken our crocheted blanket off the bed this last couple of weeks, it has been so cold!

    1. This year is slipping by so fast, it hardly seems possible that we'll soon be in to June. I thought the blankets may be too heavy and warm to work on once spring was here, but there's been no problems at all since it's only just starting to warm up now.
