The first digital camera I bought was a Fujifilm Finepix 2800Z. I loved this camera, but after a while, because it was only a 2MP and the LCD screen was only small, I decided to upgrade.

I was always happy with Fujifilm, but I decided to go with a Canon Powershot A1100IS, purely because it has a viewfinder, which I thought would be handy in bright sunlight when it's often hard to see the image on the screen. I've actually never used the viewfinder so it hasn't been a consideration in future purchases, which is just as well as pocket cameras with viewfinders are quite hard to come by. I never rated the Canon, and when the battery compartment cover wouldn't close properly due to a small piece having snapped off it, I took the opportunity to buy a new camera. It didn't actually stop the camera from working, and the cover did still shut, but I needed a new camera, you understand.

I knew straight away that I wanted to go back to Fujifilm, but this time I went for a bridge camera. This is a camera which slots between a compact pocket camera and an SLR. They have more advanced features than a pocket camera, though I have to say that I still usually use the automatic setting or pre set settings. I chose the Fujifilm Finepix S2950.

I'm happy with this camera, but it's too bulky to carry around with me all the time so I was still keeping the Canon Powershot in my bag. Eleanor has a cheap Fujifilm camera which takes better photos than my Canon, so I asked Mick to buy me a similar model for Christmas. He bought me the Fujifilm Finepix AX500. It only cost £40, yet it takes better photos than the Canon does. It's ideal to carry around with me in my bag, but if I know I'm going somewhere where I'm going to want to take photos, I take the bridge camera with me.
I'm no photographer, I don't really understand photography, and I don't spend a fortune on my cameras, but I'm happy enough with the cameras I use, and I can thoroughly recommend Fujifilm.
I think, as bloggers, we're always interested in the cameras we each use, so I'd love for you to tell me in the comments, or why not do a post yourself about your camera?
I use an 'old' Nikon Coolpix 3200 point and shoot camera which I like to supplement with something new but that will have to wait for the time being. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteLike all technology, cameras seem to get upgraded in no time at all. I'd like to be able to spend more on a camera, but other things take priority and my budget versions are good enough really for what I want and need.
DeleteI had a cannon which I liked a lot but then when I retired I got a smaller camera which is Olympus and it has been perfect because it is small and can fit in a pocket or my bag too.
ReplyDeleteSmall cameras are brilliant when you're on the go and don't want to drag anything too cumbersome around. It sounds like your Olympus is the perfect size.

It's funny, I have a camera on my phone but I've never used it yet and I've had the phone for a couple of years. I never think of using the camera on it.
DeleteI'm very challenged when it comes to technical stuff, so really need a point and click. My camera is a Fujifilm Finepix T and I love it dearly :) xx

DeleteThanks for that Jo, as I am quite challenged "as above" about cameras and just use a small Kodak, but have been looking at new ones just lately. With our bright sunlight, I was definitely looking for something with a viewfinder.
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd want a viewfinder on my camera, but found I really didn't need it. It's probably got something to do with the fact that we don't see much of the sun here. Not many pocket cameras are made with viewfinders now so I think many people must be of the same opinion.
DeleteThanks for this. I sometimes think it would be handy to have a good compact camera, as my DSLR is bulky and I don't think the camera on my phone is particularly good. I am learning how to use my Canon as I go and find the technical stuff very scary. I just play around with settings until I accidentally get something that looks ok! x
ReplyDeleteI really wouldn't know where to start with a DSLR, I don't have the first clue about photography. I agree about having a compact camera though, sometimes you don't want to take a big camera out and about with you.
DeleteI use a Fujifilm finepix but find it lets me down when I am inside. Outside on a sunny day it's brilliant and can't fault it.

ReplyDeleteI've just bought a good compact - a Sony Cybershot RX100 - as my ancient (in camera terms) Nikon D80 is a bit heavy for carting about. I'd also love an iPhone for quick snaps on the go, but what I really *need* is a new, really good, DSLR and I can't afford one just now.
It's so interesting finding out what everyone uses, it seems we're all different. Join the club, there's other things which take priority over a new camera here too. You've got a lovely new compact though so I'm sure you'll have lots of fun getting to know it and finding out everything it does.

I don't think I'd ever cope with an SLR, but they do take fabulous photos. It's so interesting hearing what cameras everyone's got and what they think of them.
DeleteMine is a DSLR - Nikon D5000. I've had it for about four years. It's been dropped on the floor too many times to recall - I'm very clumsy! I sometimes think I would like a small camera as the DSLR is a bit bulky to carry around. Although when I have my camera I don't take a handbag so the OH has to pay for everything - quite a good ploy!

DSLR's are expensive, but they're obviously worth it if you never have to pay for anything again, great ploy. They are bulky cameras, but they take such great photos that it's worth carrying them around.
