I started the year with a few things waiting to be finished off. There are many more projects I really want to start but I'm determined to finish some, if not all, of these before I do.
All the squares for the Natures Walk Blanket by Sandra Paul were finished a long time ago. I've since sewn in all the ends and blocked them, they've been waiting to be joined together and the border added for quite some time. I've loved this blanket since I saw the release of the pattern and I can't wait to have it finished now that I've started crocheting the squares together. Not too far to go on this now.
The Vertices Unite by Stephen West is something else I've loved for the longest time. I started it nearly a year ago but it's been put to one side, mainly because I was knitting things for Jack, but it's been picked back up again now. It's knit in six different sections and I'm now on the fourth of these so I'm over half way. It's something I can work on whilst watching TV as it's nice easy knitting.
I've got so many odds and ends of yarn in my stash, I'm loathe to throw even the smallest scraps away, hand dyed yarn is expensive, but also very pretty, so I decided to crochet all the smallest scraps in my stash into a Granny Wrap, an easy shawl pattern by Annaboo's House. The only problem with using scraps is that you have to change yarn so often and this means that there's so many ends to sew in, it's quite time consuming. I'm getting there though, it's already a decent size but I want to add more to it, I've still got so many scraps of yarn left. It looks so colourful.
So that's it, three projects left to finish but I can see the end in sight for them all. Look out for the finishes.
Have you tried a small rug hook for sewing ends in, I find it much quicker and less fiddly, it always works well on this design. I really need to do some crafting, but my mind is on the garden, which is far too early.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried a rug hook, I shall have to give that a go. I'm really enjoying crafting at the moment, I'm making the most of the winter months when we're stuck indoors.
DeleteUnfinished projects are a thing most creative people are familiar with, aren't they? I have so many things hanging about, but it's about inclination with me. It does feel good to get things completed.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing these finished.
Best wishes
Ellie
I try not to start things I'm not going to finish but it doesn't always work out that way, especially with larger projects. I think that's why I enjoy making things for Jack, his garments are so small that they're on and off the needles in no time.
DeleteIt's time I finished a few things, too. I'm too easily distracted.
ReplyDeleteThere's so many lovely things to make, it's hard not to cast them on before finishing what's already on the go. I'm trying to be good though now and finish these three things.
DeleteYes, I find it impossible to throw even the shortest bits of yarn.
ReplyDeleteYarn can be very expensive so I like to make use of every last bit, plus scrappy projects can turn out just beautiful.
DeleteThe blanket really caught my eye. Those colors are so soothing.
ReplyDeleteI think the colours work so well together. Not that I assembled them myself, I'm not so good at working out what looks good with what.
DeleteI love your colour choice for the Natures Walk blanket, very pretty. I use what's called the Russian join to not have ends to sew in, there is You Tube for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm using the colours which were recommended in the pattern for the Natures Walk Blanket, I really love them and I don't think I could have chosen better myself. I don't trust the Russian join, haha, I'm worried it will unravel so I'd much rather weave in the ends then I know for sure they're tucked away nice and safe.
DeleteThe Nature's Walk Blanket is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful pattern, I've been wanting to make it since it was released.
DeleteNice to see these Jo, I particularly like the look of the Natures Walk Blanket.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
The Nature's Walk Blanket is beautiful. I wasn't sure my crochet skills would be up to it but the pattern is written so clearly, I haven't had any problem at all, so far!
DeleteI love the Stephen West one!
ReplyDeleteThe Vertices Unite is the first Stephen West pattern I've used. It's a lovely knit, so intuitive and the pattern is written so clearly with help on YouTube if needed.
DeleteFantastic, you are doing a great job especially with all the ends to deal with, my least favourite part.
ReplyDeleteThe ends are my least favourite part too. I rarely knit anything in pieces nowadays because of the sewing up at the end, something I dread.
DeleteI love all your projects, particularly the natures walk blanket. Sewing in all the ends can be a pain so now I try and deal with them as I go along.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm doing with this scrappy shawl, I'll change colour three times and then I sew in the ends. Can you imagine being left with every end to sew in when it's finished, no thank you.
DeleteBravo x 2! Love all your projects. I really like the pink squares, that particular design speaks to me. Interesting that you block your squares before you crochet them together. I always block the ghan after crocheting them together. Too fold as my squares were made my lots of different hands from when I had the charity (Bridge and Beyond), so the squares don't start out as the same size, same tension etc. By blocking the whole afghan I can do a bit of stretch in some areas but not others to help even things out. Do you laundered each square before your attach? I'm curious about that. The Stephen West shawl, you said you have different sections, do you sew them together? Love things that are garter stitch, as I find it very relaxing. Love how colorful your granny wrap is, but sewing in ends is something I really don't enjoy. With some stitches you can just crochet in the ends as you work, so that helps. Anxious to see everything finished and laid out so we can see the whole item. You've started off great in the New Year.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
Bravo x 3 is what I meant above.
ReplyDeleteI soaked each square in Eucalan wool wash then pinned it to size to block before I attached them, it just makes it easier to have squares the same size when joining and counting stitches. The Vertices Unite shawl is knit in separate sections but they're not knit separately, you pick up stitches from the selvedge edge as you knit, therefore joining as you go. I love garter stitch too, so relaxing to knit and it makes a beautiful squishy fabric.
DeleteEven the name of the blanket is so lovely, it is beautiful...you are so creative. I have things waiting in the 'to finish' queue, but we have had a visit from the cold virus and sleeping seemed the better option! X
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure my crochet skills would be up to this blanket but it's written in such a way that is so easy to follow. I hope you're feeling better now.
DeleteYou have three lovely items to finish off. I love the muted colours of the first blanket. It will look like you are wrapped in nature - just beautiful. The vertices blanket is a really fun idea and very different. The scraps blanket is beilliant for all those little lengths of wool we can't bear to get rid of. It already looks so colourful. Good luck finishing the projects and I'm looking forward to seeing them when they are finished.
ReplyDeleteThey're three very different fun projects to work on, all have been ongoing for some time so it's time I got each of them finished off now before I start on anything new.
